Re-chroming older parts.

Just wondering if any one can tell me if it is possible to rechrome older parts off my 1962 190 D. IE... the shifter arm, door handles, etc.....

Re-chroming yes and no

Yes, it is possible to get your parts rechromed, but it can be very expensive to get it done right on cast (pot metal) parts. It is getting harder to find rechromers who really take care in their work. The parts will often come back wavey or with grind marks showing. I always try to find good used chrome parts from another car FIRST. Keep in mind when you re-chrome one part it will be much brighter than the other chrome on the car and will really stand out.

You can replate older parts by using a reputable plater, filling pits in pot metal or die cast becomes very expensive, remember the are different levels of quality availible, also you need to determine weather you have white or black chrome. A very reputable shop I have used in the past for pebble beach quality chrome is D&D restorations in ohio. If you are just doing a nice driver there are a lot of aftermarket parts availible on line which is the most economical way to go.
