hey all,
i am new to MB and new to diesels. i am learning as i go. i have worked on many cars but diesel is a new game for me thanks for your time..
i have a 1981 240d with a 4sp. seems like it has a lot of power. she has less than 100k but there is a little blow by... my question today is about the cam shaft
i did a valve adjust (my first on this type of vavle set up) i am noticeing that the second cam lobe from the front seems to not have any oil on it after running the engine. . with the engine running the oil is squirting out of the oil tube but not on the center of the lobe. the 1st cam lobe is always dripping with oil and the oil squirts dead center.
the lobe seems to lose oil right in the center where it rides on the vavle rocker. imagine a cam lobe with oil on either end and bare metal in the center. doesnt seem correct? anyone have any input? the other visible cam lobe is not like this. it is as if the oil is scraped off the lobe. normal? get i get a valve too tight?
if there is a problem i want to correct in now and spend a little money today than buy a new top end next week. thanks for you time
Aaron
