Who would not want to have less noise and better fuel economy at freeway speeds. If you have driven a number of different models pre-1985 you may have the same complaint I have. This is especially true on the 4 and 6 cylinder gas models and the 4 and 5 cylinder diesels. At 70 mph some of the engines are just screaming! I know when driving my 1959 220SE the noise and vibration at 65 to 70 mph actually reduces the “driving pleasure.” I remember years ago I sold a 250SE sedan and within a few hours the buyer was back in a huff telling me there was something wrong with the transmission. He was convinced in was not shifting into 4th gear.  That took some explaining!

So is the case with the 4 cylinder diesels. A 240D at 70 mph is just too noisy. So this past month I did something about it. Check out this video to see what I did. Road test video coming soon. Link to video: https://youtu.be/_wBMwdG07ZM

If interested watch the video of my old 280SEL with a similar upgrade: What a fun car this one was to drive after the conversion. Link to video https://youtu.be/31t-EwtHPWg

Sometime this summer I am hoping to do this upgrade on Happier ( my red 280SL ).  If that happens I will plan to shoot a video series on the conversion.

Safe and sound (free) motoring,
