Just recently purchased a 1981 300TD TurboDiesel and was wondering if other owner's are able to actually hear the turbo spool up? Previously I've owned a Volvo Turbo and in that car, you can certainly hear and feel the turbo as it kicks in. Helps also to have a boost guage to watch the action too. I know the turbine fins on the Mercedes move about freely as I've taken the snorkel tube to the turbo off to spin the turbo by hand and it operates smoothly. I really don't notice any turbo spooling sounds, nor any dramatic or even discernable increase in performance as one might expect on other turbos, but I'm very new to the turbo diesel and perhaps it's so refined that one does not hear the typical spooling sounds, and perhaps the performance changes/increases are minimal for this type of car. Would other owners please let me know what their experience dictates, I'd be grateful. Thanks!
