What Causes Diesel Rubber Motor Mounts to Fail Prematurely

Almost every old Mercedes diesel I see needs to have the motor mounts changed. If you have a mechanic do it for you it will cost an arm and a leg.  Common symptoms of bad rubber mounts are: lots of engine shake, rough engine noise, clanking when you shut down - and if you don't change the mounts soon enough you will end up with all kinds of other problems. These include cracked exhaust manifolds, broken header pipes, broken air cleaner mounts, loose manifolds, loose pulleys and engine accessories, and possible broken or cracked torque converter flex plate. I have insturctions and a special tool that will help you stay sane while performing this task.
