Those old hardened and discolored plastic fuel hoses in your diesel engine compartment probably need to be replaced. When they crack and break you can dump a ton of fuel out on the road before your engine quits and leaves you stranded. The problem now is it is getting very hard to find original replacements and I believe they will soon be gone. Since you will be removing the fuel lines from the injection pump and filter we recommend you replace the sealing rings at each banjo fitting. See related products below:

1977 to 1985 Diesel Injection Banjo Fitting Sealing Ring Replacement Kit
If you have had to remove any of the banjo bolts you can see that those sealing rings are getting quite old... when you see scoring in the ring the ring appears to be crushed, they should be replaced to prevent leaks and to prevent air from getting into the fuel lines.
