This can happen when you least expect it! It happened to me right when I purchased a W109 300SEL and it can be really frustrating. If you do not know how to do this little trick I show you in this video you will probably have to end up cutting a hole in your grill screen to get the hood released!
PLEASE NOTE: This is a short "general tip" video that will apply to many models from the mid 1960's to the early 1990's. The how-to filmed is from a 1972 300SEL sedan. No specific step-by-step instructions are given here for each model. Models not applicable are the R107 convertibles from 1972 to 1989 and the early W126 1980 to 1985 with the twin latch mechanisms on each side of the grill.
TOTAL RUNTIME: 3 minutes
RECOMMENDATION: You might want to consider just replacing the hood cable on any Mercedes over 30 years old as a preventative measure. If the cable has never been replaced it WILL BREAK someday!
