Easy question. Is there anything that can be done to clean/maintain an existing center dash temp sensor and tube? Thanks for any assistance,

79 240d intermittant starting problems

Sometimes when I turn the key nothing happens for asecond or until I wiggle the key a little. Most recently the turn of the did nothing except turn on dash ligts and accesories. After waiting 15 min or so it turned over instantly. Is my tumbler the likely cause or should I be looking elsewhere?
