Here is a typical compressor wheel that came off a turbo charger with 200K miles. Note the deterioration along the edges which correspond in an increasing loss of boost pressure:
This high quality compressor wheel in dynamically balanced at the factory holding to precision requirements. It is typical to see some material ground off the back or the front nut flange. If you see these type of marks it is normal. Due to this precise balancing it can be placed on any location on the turbine wheel shaft without concern.
