82 240D transmission flaring on upshift

1982 240 D w/ 180k. Transmission flares ( sounds like its slipping) on all upshifts. Worse when car is under load (ie. uphill or hard acceleration) . Not as noticeable on manual shifts. Recent fluid/filter change no help- old fluid looked great- no metal in pan. Adjusted vacuum mod. valve for firmer shifts w/ no change. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks Jon

1984 300D rear shock top washer lost

While replacing my rear axle, I unbolted the shock from the top (per the instructions). Unfortunately, I just left the washer on there while I lowered the shock with a jack.
When I got the axle installed in the hub, and raised the shock back to its normal position, I heard a clunk and looked to realize that the large washer on top had fallen off. I have looked in there the best I could and can not seem to find it. I have a temporary solution on there currently which consists of two washers that are slightly smaller in diameter than the correct one. The substitute is only there so that the whole assembly doesn't fall down, and I would like to get a correct one on there as soon as possible. Preferably before I start driving it again. (it's parked right now while I fix a few major items)

87 300SDL suddenly won't upshift from 1st

Hey- I am new so please forgive any faux pas-After fueling up, suddenly would not upshift, but if moved to neutral after reaching shift point or higher rpm would slip into higher gears upon shifting back into D- your manuals on this subject seem to only cover diesels up to 1985- can you direct me to appropriate manual/technique/parts/etc I am guessing vacuum trouble but know nothing more on subject- thus I would also like a primer on the vacuum system in general-Thanks!

300D Replacement Axle Spacers

Do the replacement axles, the can style, include the spacers between them and the differential? I asked a while ago about having on spline stlye and one can style, and you said it probably wasn't harming too much. Now I have the money and would like to replace both axles, but to make the wrong (which I didnt know at the time) stlyle axle fit, I had to remove the spacer. I'm dead in the water if I remove the rear end and find out the axle doesn't fit due to a missing spacer.

Trans X for a well transmission ??

I read with interest your assessment on the use of Trans X. I just ordered a filter kit for my 1982 240D automatic. I have faithfully serviced the transmission over my 19 year ownership of the car. I have dealt with an occasional vacuum leak and modulator adjustment. The car has 230K and aside from a slight premature upshift to 4th gear the car runs and shifts fine.

Tips on installing (and removing) 126 chassis front end lower control arm bushings

So, I learned the hard way how not to do things today but then figured out an easy way to do it (isn't that always the case). I ordered the front end rebuild kit (well worth it, the parts are great) and took everything apart, pressed the bushings out and was ready to reinstall. I had a mercedes mechanic help with the ball joint pressing, get a jig or find someone with one. It's a pain in the butt. The first time I installed the bushing I used a press with a slightly cockeyed die on it and messed the whole thing up. The bolt wouldn't even go through! Luckily these kits come with two and since this one didn't even look that bad I'm going to just leave the other side alone. There are two methods to getting these things off
