Wiper/Indicator Stalk Issue
My 1983 300SD thinks that it has automatic wipers! Some instances when I use my turn signal, the wipers intermittently wipe the windshield and will continue to do so until I jiggle the switch or use the turn signal again. It's really quite frustrating and has started to noticeably scratch my windshield!
the battery died on my 300d. I had my father-in-law pull my 300d home with my F250 (with tow-strap) about 7 miles. I put the 300D in neutral (AT) and about 1/3 the way there, the speedo cable broke. I finally got it running and now the auto tranny seems to be slipping a little bit from going 1st to 2nd, and from 2nd to 3rd.
Any thoughts/suggestions? I'm ordering an "Early Auto Tranny service kit (1)" from you guys anyways. Any advice on the speedo cable? I'm using my GPS for now to tell me how fast I'm going.
Thanks!
Hi all I'm in a bit of a fix with the local car authorities. I currently have 2-point seatbelts in my W115 (one near the shoulder, the other in the middle of the bench seat). They are saying that I can fix a 3-point seat belt in my W115 and consequently refused to let me renew my license until I change it. My mechanic though is saying there is no where to bolt the third point (somewhere under the shoulder). Can anyone confirm which of the two is right? Mark
Saturday I bought a 1970 220D as a parts donor for my 1975 230-4. I didn't know it had a good running motor. Now I'm trying to find some way to make use of it. I just can't throw something usable away!
I do have access to a cheap 1978 300D with a siezed motor and good trans. Question is will the engine fit the chassis without major fabrication and will the 300D trans bolt to the 220D motor?
I have a 1980 123 300D non turbo, shut down was acting slightly slow after testing nothing appears to be leaking and pump is producing a strong 23psi, upon testing fuel shutoff valve it shut off under two pumps from mitivac, after testing and re-connecting shut down is excellent but lines are coated with oil. so 2 questions here:
1) is there any way to clean out the hard lines without completely replacing and only replacing the rubber connectors?
My 82 300td seems to shift a little hard at slow speeds from 1st to 2nd. It seem to wait a little to long before shifting and then bam. Worse when cold. Does anyone know how to check for vacuum leaks.
I was driving to go skiing in my 1985 300TD wagon. The car, as always, ran like a champ. When I got to the road to the ski resort at 6,000 feet, the car lost power. You could stand on the accelerator and hear a whining noise from the turbo, but the car would barely go. When we left, as soon as I got below 6,000 feet again the car ran like a champ. The next morning we drove to the resort again, same thing. What would cause this and how can I fix it?

OK, I am working on fixing up my old 1983 240D, I was thinking about changing the manual transmission oil, due to the fact that I have no idea if its ever been done. What type of fluid can be used? The manual I have says Type A automatic trans fluid, which I don't remember seeing in the stores. I saw a listing on ths site for 2 liters synthetic of gear oil. Is that compatable? Even though the manual says ATF type A? Thanks for your help!
I have an 82 240D and I've been considering using fuel additives. I've heard that they give your engine more power and help keep your injectors cleen and do various other healthy things for old mercedes diesel engines. Is this true? What, if any, fuel additives do you guys use/recomend?
