Ok, I noticed a circular unit on top the fuel pump on my $175 '79 300D that had a vac. line that was disconnected. So, I hooked it up last night, but do not know its function; it is labeled as part #70 (here: http://home.comcast.net/~phantoms/vacuum/fuel_mixture_control.jpg) in the mixture control diagram. However, the diagram I have leaves out the description of what it is! I hooked it up and my son now says the car has less power than before. Note that mine does not have part #75, the nylon/plastic part vac. control valve shown in the mentioned diagram.
220 1951 MB Sedan
6 cyl
- we have compression of about 40
- Have spark
- PROBLEM ... compression coming through carb
The car sat for 1 year without being started. The only other time it was driven was just prior to that for 25 miles and there was no smoke either from exhaust or engine. The only smoke came from trying to start it and the started burned out. We replaced that and it never started again. It does turn over and has new spark plugs.
Help! My hood latch cable is broken. It is not broken near the interior release handle. I've tried to look under the edge of the hood for the latch but I cannnot see it. Any suggestions greatly appreciated.
My car has lost it's acceleration and this is a necessary item on a 240D. It's most noticeable when I am merging onto the freeway. The car will only accelerate slowly only after I hold the throttle pedal completely down and count to 10. It's as if no fuel enrichment is occurring. Yes, fuel pressure is fine - I run an electric lift pump. And yes, the linkage operates in the full range. Is there a load sensing rubber/metal diaphram on the back of the p-pump that could be cracked? I noticed a vacuum line going to it from near the throttle plate.
Hey all,
I've went to start my 115 1975 240D yesterday, and the pull switch would not pull out. Like its locked in place.
I've got it out of the dash and trying to find out if there's some kind of bi-directional action on the key, but it doesn't seem to be doing anything when I turn the key.
Anyone had this problem. It doesn't feel like it starts to move.. it feels like a mechanical lock.
Any idea what could keep it from pulling out from the off position?

My transmission has developed a leak at the front seal. How difficult a job is it to perform as a DIYer? What other seals should be replaced at the same time? If out of the range of DIYer, what would be an estimation of how much professionals would charge? Is this something one could expect a local Aamco could perform correctly? Thank you in advance for your response.
I have a 1983 300d. The accelerator pedal is not engaging my transmission kickdown switch on the floorboard. It makes contact with the switch but does not mash it down enough to engage the switch. Does anyone know the best way to adjust the throttle linkage to take out the free travel in my pedal and adjust it so that it completely engages the kickdown switch? Thanks for the help!

I have a 1972 280se 108.067 4.5 Mercedes. I had a problem with the
Ignition COntrol Unit and placed a wire in the car's plugin recepticle
(to ICU) connecting 2 of the plugins tabs. Thus bypassing the ICU
completely. I have tried a new ICU and it didn't solve my problem. It
runs??
My question is, by installing a Crane Electronic Ignition, will this
eleviate the ICU problem and improve the car's performance?
Thank you for reading this inquiry.
I found a rusted out 84 240d with a 5 speed for sale. I would like to drop the transmission (or transmission + motor) into my 75 240D - how difficult will this be to do? Any major potential problems that you know of?
