hard start, air in lines?

Hello, I have a 1985 Mercedes 300tdt which I have converted with an Elsbett system for wvo. It has been great for 2 years. I now have a starting problem, which might be totally unrelated, I think it is an air leak in the fuel lines. It takes two to start the car, one to turn the key and pound the petal and another to prime the pump. In colder weather it is more difficult. i suspect a gasket or seal, i just am wondering how to isolate the problem. Is this a common diesel thing or unique to veggie conversions?

poorly running 240D

The guy who posted this video on youtube.com has been trying to fix this car for several weeks. He bought the car recently, could not get it started, so he pulled the head off, found a cracked piston, replaced it along with all piston rings on all other pistons. He claims that the compression is up to 300-350 psi in all cylinders now. The engine runs terrible. The ALDA is turned all the way out. he lives in area with 7500 ft altitude above sea level. It looks like his injection timing or valve timing is way off(timing chain was not replaced, valve adjustment was done.

adjusting wiper blades

Another water related question, sort of. While working on tracking down the water leak mentioned in my previous post, I (again) noticed that my wiper blades are uneven be a couple of inches. Is it possible to adjust them to make them more even or is this simply a matter of an aging car? If so, where can I find instructions to make the adjustment? thx. Also - any tips on which maintenance manual/user manual (besides the manuals for sale here, which I will certainly purchase as they seem to get rave reviews) is the best general manual to purchase for working on my new 85 300td??

water in cabin - 300td

I know many have experienced this before but this is my first 300td and this morning, after a rainy day yesterday (not too heavy), I found water in the passenger cabin towards to firewall and along the door (most likely gathered there because parked on a slightly unlevel street leaning toward the passenger door). Also a bit of dampness in the rear of the wagon near the driver side rear wheel and behind the back seats. I am going to check the drain holes under the hood when I get home, but wondering if anyone can give me a few other options to look at.

79 300D won't start after storage! Help!

I just bought a 79 300D with 116,000 miles on it from an older gentleman. The car had been sitting for about 6mo and so I towed it home thinking it needed a battery charge or at the most new glow plugs. Well here is what I have done.... replaced glow plugs replaced glow plug relay charged battery to 100% primed fuel pump (cracked injectors til fuel came out) tried Kent's trick of putting STP/Oil mixture into the injectors ...Still nothing I am only getting a reading of 8 voltz at the glow plug fuse, the car cranks well but just won't fire. I am out of ideas....any thoughts?

Valve Adjustment Oddity

In adjusting my valves on my 300D nonturbo I am perplexed with an odd occurence. After adjusting a valve to the right gap and tightening the lock nut and adjusting nut, I check the gap again and all is good. But when I use a wrench to spin the valve stem using the two nuts, which turns the valve stem and the spring assembely, the gap changes, even though the nuts are tight. It will get either tighter or looser, but if I keep spinning it it will return to my original adjustment. That is if it gets tighter, by spinning it further it will eventually loosen up.

Biodiesel additives needed? + warnings

I converted the fuel lines on my '82 300DT and plan to run B100 biodiesel consistently. I heard about the need for adding lubricity to low sulfer petrodiesel but does anyone know if too low of lubricity is a problem with biodiesel? The only fuel addative I have used so far is a product called "Killem" to clean out the fuel tank.

300D turbo running hot

What is the normal running temp for my 83 300D? Right now it gets hot quickly and moves up above 90C and will approach the 120C point if I run the AC. I've changed thermostats and flush the radiator and put in new coolant along with a water wetter. Seems to run somewhat cooler but not what it should be. The electric fan used to come on but doesn't now. What is the most common thing I should look for if the fan doesn't come on? Thanks, Dan
