Will a 115 motor bolt into a 123 chassis?

Saturday I bought a 1970 220D as a parts donor for my 1975 230-4. I didn't know it had a good running motor. Now I'm trying to find some way to make use of it. I just can't throw something usable away! I do have access to a cheap 1978 300D with a siezed motor and good trans. Question is will the engine fit the chassis without major fabrication and will the 300D trans bolt to the 220D motor?

300TD Losing Power at Altitude

I was driving to go skiing in my 1985 300TD wagon. The car, as always, ran like a champ. When I got to the road to the ski resort at 6,000 feet, the car lost power. You could stand on the accelerator and hear a whining noise from the turbo, but the car would barely go. When we left, as soon as I got below 6,000 feet again the car ran like a champ. The next morning we drove to the resort again, same thing. What would cause this and how can I fix it? Bill Brewer Tehachapi, California

Which manual transmission fluid?

OK, I am working on fixing up my old 1983 240D, I was thinking about changing the manual transmission oil, due to the fact that I have no idea if its ever been done. What type of fluid can be used? The manual I have says Type A automatic trans fluid, which I don't remember seeing in the stores. I saw a listing on ths site for 2 liters synthetic of gear oil. Is that compatable? Even though the manual says ATF type A? Thanks for your help!

Auxiliary electric water pump needed?

I'm going to order and install the Climate Control Servo bypass kit for my 1980 300SD. The original servo is no longer working, neither is the auxiliary pump, and I'm tired of no heat control. Right now it's all heat all the time. The auxiliary pump has been broken for a lot longer than the servo, and I've been able to get adequate heat from the climate system. My question is, do I really need the auxiliary pump? I know it's recommended, but aux pump only really works during idle. Why can't I just put a U shaped pipe there in place of the auxiliary pump?

123 power window issues

Hey, I have a 1982 240d and am having some problems with my power windows. First, on the back driver side window, will go down, but it will not come back up, and on the back passenger side, the window goes up and down, but it goes really slow. Any suggestions? Also if anyone knows of any place in Washington state that I could get parts for my mercedes, it would be very appreciated. Thanks.

removing the glovebox door lock on an '85 300D

I need to remove the lock on the glove box door in order to replace the wood trim strip. I got the black plastic glove box inner liner off. The sliding plastic lock appears to have four tabs that lock it in place in the sliding track. I tried to push in those tabs with a screwdriver, with no success. Is there some trick to removing the sliding lock piece?

240D Speedometer Inaccurate

Hello, I have a 1983 240D, manual transmission. The Speedometer seems to read about 8 - 12 miles slower than the real Speed. The wheels on the car are OE. I have had the car since about 130,000 miles. It now has 150,000. The previous owner said this has been a long running issue that they never bothered to look into. I get confused sometimes at my real speed (especially if the police are behind me!). Any tips on what I should do? Replace cable? Or replace Speedometer? Thanks!

Restoring black plastic door handles

I found out on the net,how to restore your black door handle and mirrors, that overtime armorall has turned white. Good old peanut butter.Apply leave on 5 minutes or longer, and wash off.It lasted so far 4 washing, and 6 weeks. To expensive to try on tires. Makes everyones hands smell good too.Just kidding. Peanut Butter, the oils must be good for plastic,I might try peanut oil. Might be cheaper. Nate in TN P.S. Don't use if you expect someone in your car, with allergy to peanut butter.Be neat if a car jacker was allergic.

grease for a window regulator

This is about window regulators, specifically on my 1980 300SD (W116). The drivers side window regulator is broken, and MercedesSource has a new replacement for it, but no instructions available with the new part. After examining the broken regulator, I believe that a lack of grease (or lubricant) on the regulator slides contributed to the failure. Further, my other windows are moving slow or binding up, and I suspect that lack of lube is responsible for that slowness as well. Trouble is, I don't know what grease to use on the regulator mechanism. Grease isn't just grease. It's formulated to work at a certain temperature, under specific conditions, and I'd bet the grease on a window regulator is altogether different than wheel bearing grease, for instance.
