1981 240d burning oil

Changed my valve guide seals using your kit about a week ago. Very good information provided in the book. Thanks.
I have not seen a reduction in oil consumption and still have a good bit of smoke at start up. My car is burning approx. 2 quarts per 300 miles. 211,000 on the clock. Runs great, seems to have full power and starts up every morning. What should be my next step in reducing the amount of oil being burned? (I have no leaks) I am using delo 400 15/40 or rotella 15/40.
Any advice would be appreciated... thank you.

Need hood latch assembly for 93 300 SD

I am looking for a hood latch assembly for a w140 1993 300 SD with 245k

runs good but i think the previous owner snapped a piece of it off and just made a hole in the remaining part of the assembly and used a wire hook to open the hood. looks really bad. i brought the latch strap thinking it was missing then when i looked at it closer a whole chunk was missing. any leads would be helpful.

240D low compression in #1

I have a "rust bucket winter beater" 240D here in MT that starts great above 15 degrees F and really hard below (if at all). I ran diesel purge through the other night and did a compression check. All cylinders were 325-350 save #1 at 180. The valves were adjusted in September...but #1 on this 240D was the first valve I ever adjusted on this car (and it was hard to do, and hard to get the locking nuts tight.) Could I have screwed it up? The leakdown reading on #1 was 450...so methinks not valves...rings. How much compression can a bad valve adjustment lose?

1983 300TD needs restarting for full power

Very often the motor starts but has low power, won't even rev up much. If I shut it off (often it takes two tries) and restart it it has full power. I have changed the filters, hand pump, changed the fuel tank screen and hose but it wasn't dirty) and blown out the fuel lines. Nothing helped. The problem seems to occur more often after I have driven, stopped a while and try to restart it. The problem suddenly appeared more than a year ago but has not gotten better or worse. I have asked all the local mercedes mechanics but no solution.

84 300 sd wont shut off or shift gear

i have a 84 300 sd i traded for from a friend of mine that was wrecked but ran.ive fixed the wreck damage replaced hood etc . ive cleaned banjo fittings changed all the filters and hoses new radiator new thermostat . ive checked the shut off valve with a vacuuum tester shut right off and holds pressure.i had a bunch of vacuum leaks . ive replaced alot of the fittings and got alot of it fixed but the car wont shut off from the key switch and while the engine seems to be strong the car wont shift and go above 30 at 30 35 mph its at 3000 rpm .

81 300d Cold Air on Highway

Interesting problem. I have a 81 300 d non turbo. Heat works fine when driving around town in a city type speeds. Temp stays right around 80 degrees Celsius. When I get on the expressway, at roughly 55 mph it cools off after about a minute. Temp gauge still reads 80ish. I added some cardboard behind the grill still with no improvement. I'm currently running diesel in it even though I have a Lovecraft waste oil kit. Any help would be great. It's going down to negative numbers tonight here in MI so it should be a cold ride to work in the morning. Thanks in advance.

1978 300D Injector pump Question

I am new to the Mercedes scene, so excuse me for improper lingo. I own a Isuzu pup diesel, and several Ford 7.3L so I am familiar with diesels. I just bought 1978 300D 5-cylinder. The fella I got it from had put on another put but never got it to start after that. It turns over. The metal injector lines look misrouted to me and I would like to verify the timing. Are there any DIY's and pictures for checking the lines and getting the injection timing right. Thanks

85 td can rear bearing cause thumping?

There is a small amount of play top to bottom and left to right in my right rear tire. Not much, but more than on the left. With the car supported and the transmission turning the thumping is clearly comming from the outer axle joint/hub bearing area. With the axle out of the hub it seems fine (no looseness). I did not remove it from the differential. I would be more inclined to do the axles myself than the bearing so I talked to my mechanic about having him do the bearing.
