Water Pump leaking/location
My 78' 240D is leaking antifreeze from the front lower part of the motor.. Is this where the water pump is? If so, how difficult is it for a good DIY'er to replace the pump?

Ok,so I got alot of oil blow by,but it runs great! And eventually I understand all things die, so seeing that Im at the begining stages of engine death, I was wondering, which is the better route to go. Engine swap out or a Re-build.
I have a 1982 300TD.
And where in the world do I get a re-build kit?

Injecter pump oil?
On my 74 240d there is a red cap on the injecter pump. When i unscrewed this cap it appears that there is room for oil in there. Is there supposed to be oil in the pump and if so what kind of oil?? Is it bad to drive it without oil? It runs like a top so I'm kind of curious about this.

Swapping out a 1982 for an 1985 rear end
Hello,
I have an 82 300td and I have a 85 parts car with a good drivetrain. Now, I ve heard that the 85 rear end gear ratio is 'better ' than the 82. Could anyone shed some light on this AND most imprtantly, Kent, if your reading this, does your axel repair manual go over this, if not could you give me some main tips???

intermittent power loss 115 240d 1975
Hi- my 240d (manual transmission) has occasional fits of very poor acceleration. I can run 70mph easily on the highway, but at times when I move away from a stop sign, or start out up a hill, I can barely get the car to move away from a stop. I changed the pre -filter and main filter elements under the hood, have not changed the filter in the tank yet. Also, at times, maybe 5 to 10 seconds after startup, the engine will stall, even with the idle adjuster speed high. When this happens it seems I have to give additional throttle more than usual to increase engine speed.

tranny slips out of gear
Hello,
Occasionally, especially when I go up hills, my gear doesnt engage, and the engine revs then it pops into gear...anyone know a reason for this?

stuck idle nut 617 diesel
Yeah Kent using your manual,I need to set the idle up. However the lock nut is frozen to the shaft. Can I remove the whole shaft and clean it.Or is there horrible springs and demons attached?

Cold air filter available, possible oil blow by fix?
Hello,
I have an old engine that is blowing by oil and making my air cleaner very oily, so in lieu of this I have seen cold air systems on 300tds ,& I was wondering if this would 'fix' my dielema of having to replace the air filter, because it is a direct system, seperating the air and oil. Am I understanding this right, I have only seen pictures so ... just wondering...any insight out there...

1983 Mercedes 300D-T not starting
My car will no longer start. For a while when I turned the ignition key, I had to wait between 2-5 secs for the engine to start. Now, the starter is turning over, but other than that--nothing. The glow plugs seem to be good (I tested them at the relay without removing); the battery reads 12.3V (I know this is on the low side, but even with the car jumped by my other working vehicle, the car still won't start); and I just changed the fuel filter (I've been running biodiesel for 11 months and have changed the fuel filter 4 times since then) thinking this might be the issue. Still, nothing....

Diagnosing a worn out diesel
Hello, I have excessive oil blow by comming out the breather tube, so much so , that my air filter is about 35% covered in oil. I also have a distinct metal knowcking noise at idle speeds, seems to be comming from the front of engine but cant be sure. I read your " why does my diesel leak" manual and it said something about a cam going bad...how do you check this? I have done my valves( also with your cool tools- excellent!) and forgot to check the cam, and Im not sure what to look for. Also how do you check the timing chain? Thanks in advance James
