Acceptable Diesel Blow by?

hey again 1981 240d less than 100k i have some blow by. from the oil filler hole. what is normal/acceptable? the car sat for years and i read somewheres on this forum that this can casue sticky rings. engine has power and i even go out on the cold 27 degree mornings here in north carolina and the car fires up with out a hitch. the oil cap dances pretty good when it runs. very little engine smoke too just a very light black smoke on start up . hardly visable. the amount of power this little monster has on the road makes me wonder what all the other 240d owners are griping about. so ... anyone else have blow-by on their little 2.4?

Cam shaft oil starvation

hey all, i am new to MB and new to diesels. i am learning as i go. i have worked on many cars but diesel is a new game for me thanks for your time.. i have a 1981 240d with a 4sp. seems like it has a lot of power. she has less than 100k but there is a little blow by... my question today is about the cam shaft i did a valve adjust (my first on this type of vavle set up) i am noticeing that the second cam lobe from the front seems to not have any oil on it after running the engine. . with the engine running the oil is squirting out of the oil tube but not on the center of the lobe. the 1st cam lobe is always dripping with oil and the oil squirts dead center.

Dead 81 300D - No Start

Haven't had time to troubleshoot this, but I thought I'd throw out the symptoms to keep me away from any dead ends. 1981 300D, 200K: 1. Started and drove car twice in AM yesterday. 2. Sat for 3.5 hrs and then was completely dead- no starter action, no lights, interior lights work, some dash indications, all dying when cranking attempted. Chattering coming from glow plug relay. 3. Given the totality and suddenness of these symptoms, I'm wondering about a short that just happened during this short interval of rest. 4. Tried jumpering - no response, and the cables got warm at the source vehicle.

Diesel injector pump fuel leak

I need help here. After reinstalling the injection pump delivery valve cap and tightening it snugly. Connected the injector line to it and tightened. No cross threading here. The valve cap (fitting) is leaking fuel now at the base when the engine is running. I am afraid to tighten it more for fear of breaking it. Is there a seal under neath that needs to be changed? Or should sealant be used on the threads of the fitting? What is the recommended torque on the fitting? It may amuse you that the cost of this part from the MB dealer is $ 154!

'82 300TD lacking power at midrange and up.

Well here is the quick version of the story. I'm the second owner of this vehicle. Have owned it since '94. Have always had her maintained on schedule. She currently has 346K miles on her. The compression is very good. She has always started up easily and quickly. Lately, (and it could be biodiesel related) she seems to lack power at freeway speeds (uphill and passing) especially noticeable at altitude...more than in the past. I have changed fuel filters recently but perhaps need to again. Just changed the injectors and she idles smoother when cold...but shakes somewhat when warm at idle. Have replaced rack damper bolt. btw, it appears my primer pump leaks a little when pumping...can that be a source for an air leak??

240D crank pulley information

Traveling down the highway, I thought for a moment that the gremlin in my 240D (http://mercedessource.com/node/4065) had suddenly gotten chewed up and spit out the rear as, after the brief ruckus, my horsepower suddenly increased and the engine ran super-smooth. That dream was short-lived as my temperature gauge quickly pegged and I realized that I had no power-steering. After I pulled over and popped the hood, I discovered my crank pulley sitting sideways against the radiator, wrapped in a ball of belts and fan blade fragments. My question is this:

300D still gasping for power on long hill

My 1981 300D is still 'gagging' for fuel after a while on a long (~1 mile) hill. I've replaced the tank strainer (which was dirty but not clogged), the prefilter, and have a newer FM100 canister for mail filtration. I'm tending to believe it must be sucking in some air during heavy fuel use. Frankly, I've lost track of the variables I've introduced: this problem may or may not relate to the FM100 installation and/or the new (original style) primer pump installation. Earlier, the Benz would pull nicely up this same hill.
