Gas Engine Specific Aid

1978 450 SEL High Idle 2000 RPM

I have just acquired a 1978 450 SEL and based on the records the motor has about 35k miles on it since a complete rebuild. It starts up and runs fine (wants to die if you give it gas when cold) once warm. It drives great but the idle is high at about 2000 RPM cold and 1700-1800 warm. Not sure where to start.

Vacuum? Is there an idle control of some sort that could be bad?

I don't see an idle adjustment and don't know these gas engines so I'm lost.

Thanks for any help!

92 300CE Numerous electrical problems

My 92 300CE has several electrical issues that I think are related. First my left tailight and park lights stopped working. After several months my headlights and flashers started to blink everytime I open my door, at times will driving and when I turn the car off. It seems that the alarm system is envolved because after approx. 105 seconds after getting out and locking the door the blinking stops. And also now my sunroof tilts open without me doing it sometime during that period. Are there any suggetions on the cause or causes and corrective action I can take.

1993 MB 300TE Wagon 2WD, code reader for my car?

Dear Sir or Madam,

Is there a reliable hand held code reader for my 1993 300TE Wagon, that you would recommend/sell. My local shop charges $75 just to read the codes. I am also looking for a good shop manual for my wagon. This is my first Mercedes, and I am very impressed by the ride, but there is no way I can afford the upkeep without doing the work myself. In less than a month I have spent $750 in getting the air mass flow sensor changed ($590 for the part that was supposedly OEM, and that is why it cost so much, was actually a Bosch component) and $450 for a new vacuum shift delay relay. $150 of that $1200 total was for the diagnostic read.
