84 300D euro runs at high rpms on highway
I'm sure this has been addressed in the past but I didnt see it. I recently purchased an 84 300D Euro. I noticed right away that when I get up to highway speeds (70 mph) it seems to run at very high rpm. I checked that it is shifting through all the gears so it seems to be a rear end problem??? Is this something I can do by myself and what can I expect to pay for one? Any advice is much appreciated.

77 240d oil pressure
I have a 77 240D and was wondering the right oil pressure reading. Even at idle the gauge shows max pressure. I have another vehicle that shows different readings at different rpms. Now I saw a video on youtube that shows the same thing as my car does. Gauge is pegged even at idle. I'm running Shell Rotella 15W40 but will soon change to Amsoil synthetic. I've also read that there are a few O rings that are on the bar that goes through the oil filter that can affect the pressure. Any help would be appreciated.

Grinding into reverse-what parts 83' manual 300d euro?
Hi there. i recently purchased for my first diesel mercedes a fine specimin. It is a '83 300D Euro version, with a 4 speed manual. To make it even cooler, it had a turbo engine correctly installed some years ago. Anyway, it seems as if i will need a clutch very soon. This car technically doesn' exist in the parts lists. I have been told that i may not know what clutch it needs until i take it apart. My question is if anyone knows what i need and where to get it? Is it the same clutch parts as a 240D? Any help would be appreciated.

Checking tranny fluid level
Hello, James here. OK I changed the filter on my tranny , per your instructions, everything went just as described. Only I am having one hellova time getting my fluid level right. I followed your inst to a T and yet somtimes it looks empty and sometimes its so full its way beyond the hash marks... If you Over fill ...what is the consequense? Other than fluid comming out the overfill hose? Stuck in a weird cycle of fluid ellusion James 82 123 300TD

Just thought Id drop a note to say thanks to Kent and Kaia and crew for all they do. I would have given up on my Mercedes WVO project long ago if not for thier help and advice. I love the philosophy of learning to work on your own car. Reminds me of my early wrenching years on my old volkswagons...Germans really know how to build, if only they could make that 'one bolt' more accesable- thoes of you who work on these machines know what I mean- at any rate...

Air in the radiator lines or...

Guess what? My car dont like the cold, below 20 that is. At any rate I purchaced the engine warmer you guys at MS sell and it was easy to install with the helpful instructions.... though I do have one question about the 'air in the radiator lines'. Does there have to be constant fluid throught the entire system, including the top hose? Even when off? How can I be sure. I have drove the car for a few days and I have not plugged in the heater yet- we have had a mild winter so far, but I just want to make sure that all is well before I do.

1977 300D sluggish after warming up.
I'm pretty new at these 5 cylinder diesel motors. Could someone point me to the temp sending unit? My temp gauge does not work and I wanted to start there to troubleshoot.
I have not had this car very long, but I did notice that the secondary cooling fan was disconnected as well. I suspect that this is due to past electrical issues with various sensors (if this thing is anything like my 84' BMW) and was disconnected. It also seems sluggish lately after it warms up. However this may due be due to an over tightened alternator belt, possibly causing the heat to go up? (just put in a new regulator and I will check that out today)(this happened on my BMW when I tightened the belt too tight).

#1 Replacing Steering Gear Box / #2 Odometer quit (Not related to #1)
Replacing the steering gear box with a rebuild on a 1982 240D and wondered if there are any landmines I should look out for? I can't find any instuctions except mark a point on the shaft, and it appears to be faily easy. Of course that is why I am especially worried. (Also -how long should this typically take?)
By the by...my odometer quit this AM at 248,884...everyng else works. Where should I start diagnosing? IE what is typical cause? I noticed it was slowing down - not accurate (less miles than actual) just before it quit.
