how do you know when you need a new transmission modulator valve?

I have a 1980 300d and my alternater is over charging. Its between 13.5 and 16v. I was told this could be as simple as it not being grounded. I fear it may be the alternater. Being that I am broke...the ground would be the best problem for me. I was wondering if the alternators in these cars had a seperate regulator or if it was built in and if there were any things I could look for before i spend the money on a new alternator.
Thanks guys

can somebody tell me the possible repercussion for driving around with transmission fluid that has been over-filled? Thanks in advance.
Hello, Kent. I have done a lot of work with your great parts and books. I was rebuilding my vacuum pump and wondered if it wouldn't be a better idea to rebuild a used one that has the trapped bearings on the piston actuator (don't know the actual terminology here). I'm concerned about the old bearings in mine and the possiblity that they could drop into my timing chain. They feel a little growly when I turn them. Do you have any used pumps with this bearing?

I need help with what color wires go to Fan Switch and High pressure switch on the Dryer I wrote them down but now cant find paper as I have been reworking the car the last 14 months I have a Brown & Green a single Blue and a Double Blue this is a 1985 300D getting the A/C going is the only thing left Thanks Dave
wagon shifts hard when i give it throttle, but when i ease into the throttle then it shifts better. Also when I am up to speed, which I named my wagon "0 to 60 in 5 minutes", I loose power; a lot of power. then all of a sudden it picks back up. Any advice?
when I pulled the air cleaner to remove linkage for a valve adjustment, I noticed a butterfly flap inside the intake manifold that can be adjusted to open or close. mine stay mostly closed until the thottle was down about 3/4 of the way and then just opened 1/4 of they way at full throttle. when and how far should this open for the best perfomance. my car is really slow but I've been getting it better with lots of tuning but still needs all the help I can get.
Aloha guys,
Back brake started dragging intermitantly for about a month, replaced both back calipers. Now it's worse! I can't even make it a mile before it's egg fry hot. Had to pry the caliper off, could not get the piston to return until I pulled the brake line off, then it went in smoothly.
Is there a valve or obstruciton preventing fluid return? It's only the back passenger side. I'm ready to disable the back brakes if I can't figure this out!
Thanks
Chris
why does the primer pump act like it is under vaccum? i have tried to prime the i.p. pump up but, when i pull the primer plunger up it is very hard to pull and will "snap" out of my hand if i let it go. then the fuel in the filter "boils" with air bubbles. anyone else have this happen? 1980 300d .. been sitting for years. car starts but dies.
Did my wagon have a tank strainer on the fuel tank outlet when it left the factory? It doesn't appear to have one now and from what I've found doesn't look like the pictures in the manuals I've seen. I'm going to clean the tank and was curious. There appears to be drain plug midway in the tank. Is that really what it is?
Thanks.
