240D Injector Knock

I have a mint '82 4-speed with 120k actual miles (3k mile oil changes since new) that has a heavy metallic knock at idle (all cylinders) and less power than it should (max speed 80 mph). Items I've done: new injectors, valves carefully adjusted, compression check (330~360 psi all), new filters (all), 2 cans diesel purge...all with no effect on noise and low power. I'm thinking perhaps injection timing might be the problem but know nothing about how to check/adjust. Also, the car does not smoke much and has excellent emissions numbers. Any thoughts? Thanks so much for your input! Kurt

Mercedes 240D won' shut off -adjust idle speed?

I recently bought a 1978 240D so I could run biodiesel. I heard all the warnings, so when it started to get slugish I changed both fuel filters. It runs much better now, and has more power, but when I turn off the ignition the engine won't stop running - even after I remove the key. I tried reducing the idle speed with the key-shaped knob on the dash, but that wasn't enough. Does anybody know if there's a way to change the idle speed under the hood, and how to get to it? Adam

'84 300CD Power loss

I've got a Turbo 300 CD Coupe that I've just purchased about 2 weeks ago. It's got about 270,000 miles on it and was running great until a couple of days ago. Now it seems to hesitate a bit (stutter) at speeds arounds 60 mph and if I'm going up any sort of hill it slows down pretty dramatically, like to 35 or 40. Also am noticing a bit more roughness in the idle. Anybody have any ideas of what it might be or how to diagnos this?

1984 300d Ignition switch Woes and advice

I just had a problem with my ignition switch and want to give some helpful advice to others so you won't have similar grief. My 300d has 223,000 miles on it and several times (not very often) the key would not turn in ignition, but I was always able to make it work by jiggling the steering wheel..until last time!No amount of jiggling ,light tapping, heavy tapping,or even the locksmith, could get it to move.
