1982 300td - Do rear headrests exist?

I *think* I have seen some 300td wagons with rear seat headrests. My 1982 version does not have such things, but I am interested in them given that I often carry passengers in the rear seat. (By rear seat, I am referring to the actual rear seat, not the 3rd row flip-up seat.) Any info about obtaining / installing would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Dale

'76 300D will not reverse

Automatic transmission. When I drop it into reverse the engine just revs as if it were in neutral. Park and drive are just fine, drove it 50 miles to home after the security guard pushed me out of the parking space. I've got two different mechanics saying I need a new transmission, but a guest staying at my inn says it might just need a reverse pin adjustment. Can anyone explain what this is to me? Or has anyone else out there had this problem? Thanks! Nicole

123 126 diesel vacuum leak diagnosis

My 1985 300TD has a vacuum leak. The engine won't shut down without using the manual stop and the door locks don't work. The brakes and transmission are working fine. Does the fact that the brakes and transmission are working while the shutdown and doors are not, help in locating the leak? Or, do I follow all the usual steps (as described in Kent's vacuum source leak detection manual)? [by the way, is it possible to search the forums?]

Transmission vacuum shifting valve keeps dying

I've got a 81 300D. The transmission vacuum shifting valve went bad & it started shifting hard & going back & forth between gears. I replaced it with a good valve off my 'spare parts' car. The transmission started shifting like perfect again. However, after maybe a month the car is shifting hard again. I suspect something on the car is killing this valve.

Subframe mounts 1988-560SL

Just received the subframe mount replacement kit. As I am doing a pre-job review of the instructions and looking under the car with front wheels removed - I am concerned with the transmission cooling lines attached to the radiator. Should I detach these lines prior to lowering the subframe??? Looks like they may get hung up if I don't. Has anyone experienced this when doing this job? (The transmission lines are not mentioned in the instruction book) I am looking forward to doing this job myself and hope to get all my ducks in a row prior turning the wrenches.

A/C compressor, '76 240D [115 chassis]

One thing I've never tried to mess with myself is A/C. The mechanic who recently checked out my non-functional system said the compressor was ruined because a previous owner had converted it from R12 to R134. This didn't surprise me, based on what I've read on these forums, but what did was his categorical remark that replacing it with a used or rebuilt compressor wouldn't do. That struck me as unrealistic and perhaps also just mistaken. Can anyone with experience with used or rebuilt compressors confirm or deny whether these are a viable option on old Mercedes?
