87' 300TD NO A/C

Hello Everyone, I just bought a 87' 300TD. The a/c is not working. I'm a ASE certified master tech but I have no experience with Mercedes. The climate control seems to be working OK. THe fan speed changes with the temp settings, the air blows from the correct ducts when swithched which usually indicates no vacuum leaks or sevo problems. But the A/C compressor clutch does not engage. I checked the high and low pressure switches on the high side a/c line near the sight glass and they are not getting any power to them so jumping them will not help. I've read that the a/c control cutout relay could be bad, but I don't like throwing new parts at a problem without verifying with a test 1st. So can you tell me how to properly diagnos this ?? Thanks in advance for any help. Art D

'84 300SD driver's seat

I'm wondering if there's anyone out there that has had a seat motor go bad? I have replaced the seat switch on my driver's side to no avail and am wondering where to go next. I can hear the switch make a noise when I move it so I am assuming that is in working order. I have both of Kent's manuals (Chassis Door Maintenance and Repair & Front Seat Repair and Restoration) and neither speak directly to my situation. However, they do a wonderful job in describing how to remove the front seat, which I'm slightly afraid that's where I'm going to have to go to next!

Liquid Block Sealer - Is it worth the hype?

First of all, it's not December 31, 1969, but instead is April 9, 2008. I have a 1990 300TE that had a heater hose break, and the dumb fool poured cold water into the radiator bottle. Now I have oil in the water (though no water in the oil!). Advance Auto sells this bottle of green fluid that GUARANTEES to fix leaks in head gaskets, cracked blocks, valve cover gaskets, etc. that is added to water. The big hitch is that the car must be able to idle for 50 minutes while the stuff does it's thing. One thing I found out; a cracked block is not conducive to idling more than a couple of minutes - much less 50 minutes (no wonder it's guaranteed to work if you follow the directions to the letter).

123 Sedan Sunroof cable length

I've got a 1983 240D sedan with electric sunroof. I've cleaned/lubed slides and cable. Sunroof goes all the way back without cable attached (by hand) but only 2/3rds back with cable attached. Could someone have put in a wagon cable? Are there different lengths between sedan and wagon cables? The reason I ask is that there's a wagon fuel sender in the tank so maybe PO had an old wagon and used parts for this sedan. Or is there something else stopping the travel?

Control Arm Bushing difficulties

I am in the process of replacing the bushings and ball joints on the lower front control arms of my 82 123. While attempting to remove the smaller bushing (connected to the steering rod?) I ran into a wall. Actually, the bolt, which needs to go up, butted in to the spring cup. How do I remove this bolt? Do I need to remove the springs and cup? If so are there any tricks? HELP!
