At any altitude above 3000 feet my car's transmission shifts roughly, sometimes refuses to get out of second and when it does, will not go into fourth. I discovered this yesterday while on a trip up to Lake Tahoe- did not make for a pleasant experience as one might imagine. Is there a Barometric switch anywhere in the system that might have gone erk, or is there some other problem that might be the culprit? The Trans shifts normally here in the valley, if that's a help.

I just bought my first Mercedes and the previous owner bought and installed the STC 1000. I'm finally filtering WVO and ready to fill it up and was looking over all the documentation/instructions he got from you guys and one thing was a bit
disconcerting ... it says (paraphrasing):
"turn the key to the accessory position before the glow plugs turn on to let the vegetable oil heat up for a certain amount of time depending on temperature and then turning it on to let the glow plugs warm up before starting."
I just bought a 1982 240D and am struggling with finding a good repair manual. I don't like the CD-ROM manuals that you can find at manualsunlimited.com b/c I like to have the physical manual in hand when I'm doing a repair. I also find the Chilton's manual to be way to general and not very accurate for my '82 240D. I see that mercedessource has a bunch of manuals for sale, that cover a wide variety of 240D related topics. But I don't see one or even two that combined are a comprehensive engine and body repair guide. Can anyone recommend a good service manual (Mercedes Factory manual in print?) or manuals that would cover most major maintenance and repairs? First up for me right now is glow plugs, valve cover gasket, vacuum pump gasket and brake master cylinder.
Has anyone played with lpg or natural gas conversions on the fuel injected engines? these gas cars could use a little help in the mpg dept.
Being naturally fuel injected should make the conversion simpler. But the danger of blowing up a perfectly good engine has its drawbacks.
Back in the 80's it was a fairly common conversion, but I haven't heard much about it lately.
Now you hear PikensPlanCNG.
Sounds promising, but is it practical?
I have an '81, 300SD, that sat in a field for 2 years due to leaking engine oil cooler lines. Replaced lines, checked all fluids, started and ran, and then took it for first test drive. Noticed it was slow going into reverse. Have zero (0) power to power-brake booster. Figured vacuum pump needs to be either replaced or rebuilt. As I checked the transmission fluid, with the engine running and the transmission in park, when I checked the fluid it seems to be over-full. Previous owner was adding Dextron/Mercon trans fluid. As I put it into reverse it is taking longer and longer each time for the reverse to engage. Are the above my problems, ie: vacuum, wrong trans fluid, improper checking technique, or is the transmission going south?
how to open TRUNK LOCK nothing don"t work please help
I have an 85 300 CD turbo and the original engine was blown, I got a beautiful 83 engine, have it up and running, but the old engine had a 3 wire lead on the injection pump and a 3 wire lead and switch on top of the valve cover. The 83 engine has a vacuum switch on the valve cover and no electrical lead on the pump. The transmission shifts hard and I assume it is these differences that are causing this can anyone help me with?
thanks,
Phil
Hi I have a 1985 300 CD turbo and I have no heat. So far I have taken apart the control panel and cleaned all the switches and re soldered any suspect connections, I also fixed the aux water pump so I know that is working now and I bypassed the mono valve so the water will flow through the core, but still have no heat. the fan works and I have air coming out of the defrost and outer vents, but no air at the floor. Can anyone point me in the right direction as to what is wrong with this?
Thanks,
Phil
