84 300SD transmission governor screens

I would like to check and clean the governor screens in my 84 300SD transmission, but have no idea how to go about doing it. I think they can be accessed near the filter, but don't know anything about transmissions. Any suggestions? Are there any books or manuals available to teach me how these transmissions work and how they can be serviced and repaired?

Thanks for your help - Steven

84 300TD wagon transmission leak

I have a transmission leak. It seem to mainly be leaking out of the driver side (opposite the drain plug) of the pan...mainly from the center bolt back toward the rear (toward the rear of the car) bolt. It almost looks as if it's leaking out between the pan, the gasket and the seal between the gasket and tranny. I've replace the filter, the gasket and the pan.

Hopefully this wordy description can lead somebody to help me out. Thanks in advance.

82 240d smoking bad (IMO)

I recently did a valve adjustment, hoping that the minor exhaust smoke would go away. It got worse. The engine smokes on startup, smokes really bad and runs rough until it is warm, then smokes enough to be annoying at idle. It appears to be oil smoke. I tested compression, wet and dry, and that was fine (dry-330, 340,340,335). According to previous owner's meticulous records, the engine was overhauled at 515K, am at 565K now. Any insight would be appreciated!!

1980 300D over charging battery

I have a 1980 300d and my alternater is over charging. Its between 13.5 and 16v. I was told this could be as simple as it not being grounded. I fear it may be the alternater. Being that I am broke...the ground would be the best problem for me. I was wondering if the alternators in these cars had a seperate regulator or if it was built in and if there were any things I could look for before i spend the money on a new alternator.

Thanks guys

Brent
