300SD with 420SEL Final Drive question
Kent,
I replaced the rear axle assembly, axles and final drive, of my 1983 300SD with one from a 1991 420SEL. I really like the result with one exception: the speedometer is off (something was wrong when I started passing everybody on the highway at 55 mph). I read somewhere that the problem would be fixed if I repalce the speedometer with one from a 420SEL. Does that make sense? The 420 has a speed sensor in the final drive, the 300SD gets it speed information apparently from somewhere else. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Thank you
Dieter

1987 300SDL Power Seats not moving back and forth
When I operate the seat switches on the doors(driver's and passenger's), only the seat backs will fold forward or backwards. The seat bottoms will not move forward or backwards, but the seat bottoms will move up and down. My 5foot tall wife cannot drive our Mercedes since it is set to my 6 foot height! Benz-aid help needed! Thank you.

Immobilizer for 1985 300SD?
Can anyone recommend a vehicle immobilizer or alarm system that works well with a 1985 300SD? I am enjoying my new-old Mercedes...and want to keep it. There's nothing installed at present other than the standard high-security key locks and the steering wheel lock.
Best regards to my fellow dieselheads,

300SD steering "wander" problem ??
My 1983 300SD with 350,000 miles tends to "wander" / weave from side to side at highway speed when on a stretch of road that has grooves (running paralel to the road).
Would the cause be most likely a worn out steering gearbox or the idle arm bushing (or both). I had difficulties before trying to adjust the nut on top op the steering gearbox and finally settled on what was tolerable because I could not achieve ideal.
I replaced the steering shock absorber 3 years ago.
Any thoughts? Thanks, Dieter
