Early Diesel Fuel Injection Pre-chamber Seal Ring 2.3mm
1973 220 Diesel Cold Weather Starting
Hi Kent et al.,
I'm considering purchasing a '73 220D. I won't be able to plug in a block heater in my apartment parking lot.
The winters here in Rochester, NY can get pretty cold. Do you think I can get away without using one? Or should I look for a gasoline vehicle instead?
Thanks!
Daniel

Diesel 616 617 AUTOMATIC transmission Flywheel Bolt ( Used )
1985 300TD - ALDA adjustment
If I adjust the ALDA as described in the 617 Diesel Performance Tuning and Repair Manual, is the fuel mixture enriched across the range of acceleration or just from standing?
What does A.L.D.A stand for? Perhaps its something in German?

Diesel Injector Seat Cleaning
1976 W115 300D
Do you recommend a specific tool, chemical, or (wire?) brush etc to clean the metal seat where the Diesel injector crush washers mount onto/in the prechamber? There is apparently a thin "film"/spots of thin carbon? very hard carbon in this area that seems to be very hard to completly remove, when attempted to clean this area. Some of this thin film of carbon? appears to remain after wire brushing with a small wire brush. I am looking for the proper tool , chemical and or procedure for cleaning this area.

1980 300D "passing" gear and faint whistle when turning right
If I push on the accelerator with only modest pressure (especially when the car is cold), it often jumps into what I assume is a "passing" gear. I've dealt with the problem by just being cautious with the accelarator - often, I just let up on the gas when I hear it jump into "passing" mode, but I was wondering if there's a repair I can try.

'83 300TDT NeedleBearings in Filter
I recently put a used transmission into a friends car, and adjusted it according to the mercedessource manual with the mercedessource tools, etc.
The used unit I pulled was from a crunched car ( a good sign the car was being driven before arriving in the junkyard) the fluid was clean, didn't smell, as well as no metal in the pan. The number matched (722.315). It seemed like a good donor.
It was without a torque convertor, so we used her existing one — draining it prior to installation, etc.
When we first put the transmission in, it shifted WAY better than the old one ever did — which the friend had for about 10 years. Seemed like great news, and a successful transplant.
