Boom, Coolant vapor all over inside the cockpit

I recently got an 85 300sd with an engine that only has 92000 on it. The car drove great till I heated it up on a 30 min trip home from work during the hot part of day. I was just about home when I turned on the A/C, ahh it was nice and cold, but at a stop light the engine started to make some strange vibration and a few minutes later coolant vapor burst into the cockpit (not very nice while you are driving). I got the windows down and pulled over and the vapor slowed down, but the engine temp started to get hot.

someone put 134a in my '84 SD. Can I go back??

I was getting things together to get started, new drier, new expansion valve, refrigerant and 'oil..' I was going to draw it down today-- and get to work this afternoon.. My freeze-12 (drop in "Freon" replacement) arrived a couple days ago.. Here's my problem.. Uncapped the lines, to find one has been "retrofitted" to 134a. My questions are: 1) can I just wrench that off?? It looks like it's just a screw on fitting. 2) the BG refrigerant oil is compatible with both 134 AND R-12 "freon" so I'm thinking that isn't an issue.. 3) do I need to replace the receiver drier and expansion valve, and pretty much, go on with my life??

Diesel "wobble" & groaning turning right

I have a 1984 300SD & it has developed a "groaning" sound when I turn right. I jacked it up & with the car running turned the wheel, no sound (most likely because it does not have the weight on it). I grabbed the tire I turned the tire hard manually & got a little noise from what I believe to be the "Guide Joint" on the top of the Steering knuckle. It looks to be in great shape. Any tips to solving or isolating the problem?

300SD low speed poor performance/acceleration

85 300SD 231,000 - bought with 180,000 in Oct 2005 - used for communting from Tennessee to Maryland and back a few times each month. Just useless FYI!! Problem is.. at low speeds taking off, it can hardly get out of it's own way especially with A/C - was going to give this to my son when he gets his license but i'm a little worried it is too slow and he'll have no power to get out of trouble if he pulls out in front of someone. i hooked up a pressure gauge between the switchover valve and the line to the ALDA. when taking off i get 1-3 psi until about 2500 rpm when the pressure starts climbing. at about 3000 rpm i'm getting 7.5 psi. is this right?

Proper way to bleed coolant line ?

Whats the proper way to bleed the coolant lines for an 84 300SD. I have just acquired an 84 300 SD and have put in a new thermostat. I turn the car off when the temperature gauge is just shy of the mark between the 80C and 120C (I assume this is 100C). There is also no heat out of the heater where there was once before. So I probably still have air in my collant lines. What is the proper way to bleed the coolant lines? As an aside question, is there a way to tell if there is air in the coolant line versus the thermostat being bad?

Diesel noise like a slinky - What??

Did you ever play with one of those old metal slinky toys when you were a kid? Do you remember that metalic sound they would make as they wound their way down a set of stairs? Well my 126 makes a similar type noise when I begin to accelerate and then again as the car slows down. I'm new to this so I thought I would consult the experts. Does anyone know what that noise is? Is it a huge problem? How do I fix it? Thanks. Rick
