As I continue my quest for perfect 617 Diesel Injectors & truth I have just learned today that I need to have the internal surfaces of my injectors lapped to remove grime & build-up. . .
Is this something I can do myself (lapping the surfaces) if I take on the task of re-building my 617 injectors w/new Monark nozzles?
How would I do this?

The noise is usually not noticable at an idle or at higher speeds.The noise is also almost always not noticable when running SVO.When I switch back to deisel the noise takes awhile to occur.
I just bought a 79 300d. The front wheels are 'kicked out' at the bottom. I think it has to be a front end issue........but I can't find anything loose. Anyone with experience with this chassis have any ideas of where I should be looking?
I have a 1980 240D sedan with an automatic transmission. When I start the car and drive it first thing in the morning, the transmission shift from first to second gear is rough, it snaps my head when it shifts! However, once I have been driving it for about 15- 20 minutes and it's warmed up, the shifting from first to second is much smoother and about the same for the other gears. Is my transmission having a problem, or is this typical for a car of this age?
I finally got around to checking my compression and found (the car has 300K+ miles on it) all cylinders had 280-325 on the compression EXCEPT #1 which I checked 6 times with different crush washers and could never get over 160.
I'm thinking I need to recheck my valve clearances one more time. What else can I look for to try and figure the problem?

I bought a 69 280s (second owner from new)1 year ago.It needs a full restoration so I started a mechanical restoration.The car was in storage for 5 yrs,and had not been started.I replaced all fluids and filters,had the carbs rebuilt,drained and power washed the gastank,replaced all ruber hose and lines,added new bosh platinum plugs,replaced fuel filters,overhauled the mechanical fuel pump,changed the points,ballast resistor,and ignition cables,cleaned and refitted the distributer cap and rotor,after all this the car only starts when gas is poured in the carbs and dies.I have poured fresh gas(87 octane)in the tank and some fuel stabeizer,poured a can of carb cleaner in the two zeniths, Replaced the fuel filters,
Can anyone please talk me through or even better show me pictures of how to install new passenger side window (front) window glass in my 1984 300CD? Thanks!

I am in the process of having the car painted in another country and would like to inquire if you would recommend the one stage or the two stage process. Because I am buying the paint, how many quarts do you think I will need, using urethane medium reducer, plus activator. The paint being used is called Val-Spar. The 1979 300 SD originally used a one stage process and the vehicle will be striped of all chrome hand sanded as there is no body work to be done and the original paint is just starting to form small check marks due to the aging.
