clunk clunk when tranny downshifts when not under load

I have an 81 300sd with 334,000 on it. Have changed the flex plates and recently had the driver's side rear wheel bearing looked at because i was experiencing a clunk when i put the car in reverse. The mechanic said the bearing was going, but tightened it up and now the clunk is better ( a temp. fix... part is on the way...) but i have been noticing a 2 stage clunk when i accelerate after the car warms up. if i depress the accelerator quickly and let up quickly it clunks on the depression and release, also when the tranny downshifts when there is no load on the drive line, like when i am coming to a stop going up hill. any clues?

1984 300CD Sticking Throttle

I have a 1984 300cd and the gas pedal (accelerator) does not work any more. I thought that my car was sluggish because it needed a diesel purge (did that). Now the gas pedal does nothing. I tried to manually push the control linkage assembly and it seems to stick or get hung up. I think that I need a vacuum valve levers. Is there any thing else that would "loosen up" this problem? Thank you in advance for your help. Mathieu 1984 300cd turbo 314,000 miles

240D charging problem

My Battery drains occassionaly in my 81 240D. I had my alternator tested and it tested OK. The car runs fine otherwise. The only other thing I have noticed is that the Break Pad light and the break warning light comes on and stays on at low RPM. These lights go away when I increase the RPM. Could there be short in the break warning system or is it still the bad alternator and the regulator that is causing the the break light on the dashboard to come on?

shift bushing replacement advice

This is not a question, but rather an additional tip.

I've installed MercedesSource's shift bushing kit on my 1980 300SD, a W116 chassis. The instructions were very good, though I had trouble getting the clips back onto the shifter rod between the two levers. With the shifter rod out of the car and held in my hand, I was amazed at how easy the clips install on each end, but nearly impossible when the shifter rod is inserted into both of its bushings under the car. I thought I'd share how I solved this problem.

He is also one of the few people knowledgeable in 4Matic drive systems.
