85 300TD Alternate Hood Release Fix

I Just Broke my Hood release cable. After I open the hood, can I cut the cable about three feet from the hood end, and reroute the shortened hood latch end over the left headlight? There I could make a loop in the end and kinda hide it on top of the light? I think I can remove the outer sheath and just use the wire to unlock the hood. Please comment on the feasability/drawbacks ..... thanks

1979 300SD Turbo Diesel: after-market turbo advisable?

Ken,

Thanks for the products and advice thus-far.

My 1979 Mercedes 300SD Turbo Diesel is running great (knock on wood!), and always gets a thumbs up.

Question for you and anyone in the forum with experience with my model and after-market turbos.

Would an after-market turbo work with my vehicle?

Yes? No? Why/why not? What to look for/stay away from? Other advice?

Cheers from the Bluegrass State,

Christian

1978 300SD Oil Leaks

I've been running through a lot of oil lately so I had my engine cleaned thoroughly and ran it at idle for 30 mins. I noticed that oil was leaking from the grate at the bottom of the transmission, but nowhere else immediately noticeable. I suspect that this is the dreaded rear crank leak that requires engine removal, but would appreciate confirmation before I go out and solicit estimates. Am I correct?

overheating on my 1980 300 sd

I have replaced the thermostat, aux water pump, water pump, all hoses, had the radiator rodded out by a radiator repair shop, blower motor replaced and I am still just short of 100 degrees on the cars gauge backed up by an infrared gun. I have checked and my major problem was the radiator as the bottom was cold and the top was running hot. After all this I now have hot all over readings. The thermostat was an 80 degree one and was put in the right way. I am getting heat thru the a/c so I assume there are no bubbles in the system. The top of the radiator reads 100 degrees with thr IR gun.
