Hi, all; newbie here.
I'm not sure if I've selected the correct chassis number because MB use different classifications of their models over here in Europe; however, I should imagine that the principles would be the same, regardless of location... at least I hope so.
The problem I have is that my beloved Benz (E240 Elegance Tiptronic - 2597cc; registered November 2000) requires a new ignition switch. Enquiries made to dealerships have all quoted me a price of roughly $800 for a new switch and 'Green Key' (apparently needed to programme the new switch into the car's computer).
Here's the $64,000 question: can I use a salvaged switch (cost $40) and programme that into my car using a 'Green Key'?
Please... someone give me the answer I'm hoping for!
