1980 240d alternator troubleshoot

car wouldn't start, pulled voltage regulator, inner brush was worn out, while outer was over 1/4 inch. both were worn with same concave profile. does this spell alternator trouble?
i installed a borrowed voltage regulator, and all seemed ok first day. now, at idle, if i turn the lights on, it changes pitch of the engine. the engine bay is clean, and alternator looks newer even though the car has way over 300k.

1991 300D Non-Return Valve / Booster Vacuum Line

In changing the serpentine belt I pulled at a line and broke the non-return valve in the middle of the main brake booster vacuum line. My car won't stop now and it's slightly important to do so because I have to get this car inspected for a state safety inspection. I'm thinking they won't look too kindly on a car that doesn't stop ;)

From the schematics, this is the brown plastic line that gets the vacuum when the key is shut off -- so everything adds up. I'm trying to find a quick fix as I wait on parts.

#1: I haven't been able to find just the valve, I think the line has to be replaced entirely?

#2: Is this as simple as unscrewing and reconnecting from the pump to the booster? Since there isn't fluid/anything else to deal with I wanted to make sure I don't neglect anything.

1984 300D intermittent erratic temp. guage

Anyone ever experience this: "Old Yella" runs great as I have been retired a little over 2 years now and the car has become a hobby to me as well as my daily driver. With the help of this site I have got the vehicle pretty much re-born. There is one thing that I haven't been able to remedy. The car's water temp guage reads right where Mercedessource states it should 99% of the time,(a picture of the guage reading is on this site or in one of the manuals) just around the 80 degree celsius mark.

Injector Nozzle Replacement; stuck injector bodies/shims

Hi All,

Used Kent's handy manual/kit for the Monark Injector Nozzle swap. Am in the
middle of the job... two of the injector nozzle bodies don't seem to want
to come out (the other 4 came out pretty easily). Ditto for several of the
shims... some blew-out with a little blast of air/solvent... the others
are sitting tight.

Any suggestions? I've tried "liquid wrench" on the nozzle bodies... so far
no luck.

I was surprised that one of the nozzles was way more rusty than the others;
also, if any of you are contemplating/preparing for this job, I'll save
you the puzzlement: sometimes the crush washers/heat shields come out with
the injector body... so you don't have to sit there scratching your head,
wondering why some are longer than others... Doh!

Cheers.

91 350SD smoke and miss

91 350 SD smoke and miss at start

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

A recently purchased 91 350SD inline 6, 3.4 turbo with 162K.

Car smokes and misses at startup. The car was always warmed up when testing and checking prior to purchase... you know the story. I'm trying to solve the inherited issue with little luck. Otherwise aside from a couple small issues, it's a jewel.

Sometimes it smooths out and runs like silk with no smoke, other times symptoms persist. As it warms up and smokes it makes an occasional sound like a small dog sneezing as it misses, sorry thats the only sound I can relate it to.

Fluid level for '80 300TD

I have a newly acquired 1980 300TD and the first thing I wanted to do was change the transmission fluid. The stick was reading 2 or 2 ½ inches above full at temperature before I did anything, but outside of some issues with the 3rd to 2nd gear kick down, it was well behaved. The gasket was hard and the fluid was very old which is not good news, but the car has suffered fair neglect and I was not too dismayed. The issue of immediate concern was that I retrieved only 6 qts. of fluid from the system, including torque converter. At present I have replaced the fluid to the level I found it at, but am not driving the car. I might guess that the dipstick is either a mismatched junkyard replacement, or maybe the dip tube has been modified or maybe the AT fluid was overfilled.
