My dash/center IP lights don't work. I already tried replacing the dimmer switch and that didn't help. I replaced the headlight switch when I first got the car so it might have something to do with that since the replacement one was not exactly like the one I replaced. I've also checked all the fuses in the fuse box and replaced the bulbs with ones that were tested. All the warning/turn signal lights work, just not the ones that light up the dash/trans/etc.
Drivers door lock will not turn either direction. Pulled door panel can see single wire to handle assembly broken. How do I get handle loose from latch assembly? Afraid to break the rod. What is the trick??Need to pull handle out from door to access and repair the wire.
Wow! Times like these I feel really alone in rural N.W. Indiana!! I went to change the radio (cassette) to a more modern am/fm/cd Blaupunkt Saturday night. Speaker wires were the hangup and I was told I need a floating ground adapter...? I thought each speaker had both wires coming to the radio and I could connect them as such to each corresponding lead from the new radio. The "experts" said I'd fry the radio and wanted to sell me this "floating ground adapter" for $40. I didn't buy it...I re-installed the former Becker original and had to re-splice the brown ground wire as I was all set to splice and connect ASAP.
The burl wood trim on the dash and doors of my "86 560 SEL needs help, but I have not found a source to help with repair or replacement except the dealer which runs over $3500. Any ides's? john
Had minor vacuum problems (power locks don't work) but lately, trans shifting is slow. When engine is warm and reversing from parking, I need to rev the engine a bit before it shifts into Drive. Also, it takes a little longer to shift from 3rd to 4th with motor revving a little higher and a little longer.
I went to Kent's "Diesel Vacuum Source Troubleshooting and Repair" booklet and here's what I found. The booklet suggests the vacuum to the Injection Pump Shut Off Valve be tested. My car does not have one of those!
I was wondering... Is there any big reason the Walbro boost pump for WVO available on this site [http://www.mercedessource.com/node/2133] couldn't be mounted in the engine compartment, perhaps on the driver's side inner fender for easy maintenance access since there's room there? This car is my 1982 300D. I was thinking about setting it up there on the inner fender, with the easier access afforded, to pull the veggie fuel right out of the hardline as it comes fore and send it on its boosted way to the heated filter (a Vormax unit I scored used out of a wreck for insanely cheap).
Without warning, no glow plug light in the dash and glow plug relay under hood clicks on then off immediately. (Chicago) I use the block heater overnight so morning starts are a given, but after teaching all day, afternoon starts, it seems the glow plugs sort of work still if I wait 15 seconds, but startup idle is a bit rough and a little black smoke puffs out where before there was none. The engine was factory replaced before I got it and has about 40K miles on it. QUESTION: For emergency starting until I can get the replacement parts for repair, can I run a wire from the battery terminal to the # 1 glow plug top, hold it there for 10 seconds, and then go start the engine? (maybe 12 sec. if in lower teens outside temp).?? TIA in advance for your most valued advice to everyone.
After turning off the car and removing the key the radio remains on and the aux fuel boost pump wired to activate in the aux mode continues to pressurize the fuel system. Car has 232K and in the last 19 years of ownership I have not replaced the ignition switch.
Is my diagnosis accurate of a failed ignition switch in the acc. position?
