SPEEDOMETER/ODOMETER FAILURE ON 76 300D

THE ODOMETER AND SPEEDOMETER RECENTLY QUIT WORKING ON MY BENZ. RIGHT BEFORE IT COMPLETELY QUIT, I NOTICED THE NEEDLE FOR THE SPEEDOMETER BOUNCED AROUND ALot, then...nothing. some of the lights, such as glow plug, brake sensor and battery lights still work, but the regular illuminary dash lights do not. I replaced the bulbs, but still no light. Also the old becker radio did not work and i pulled it out, but can't seem to figure out what config. to hook up a cd player. could the radio issue be related to the failures on the instrument cluster?

350SD: Car shakes heavily at low idle once warmed up.

Hi, My wife has a 350SD (W126 - 1991) with 146k miles. We have had it only for the last 15k miles or so. The car has developed a strong throbbing, low frequency vibration or shaking (the whole car) when stopped at a stop light (for example) after it has been driven for a while and is well warmed up. It is slightly noticeable, but much less severe, when started up from cold. Otherwise, the engine seems to run smoothly and be OK at higher RPMs. I have noticed that the idle speed drops a little from, >6500 to

starting problem

I have a 76 300D that I am having a strange problem with. Usually the car will start without any problem two or three times, and then it will appear that the battery is too weak to even make the car turn over, although the headlights and other electronics still seem to be at full power. I have had the alternater tested and it seems to be working fine. I took the battery back to Wal-Mart and their machine (as well as AutoZones) found the battery to be good.

Diesel cigar shaped fuel hose

Hello forum, I have just purchased a 1981 300D - non turbo, 100,000 original miles and I am hoping to run Biodiesel, not svo/wvo. In looking over the fuel lines, my mechanic told me that the thick bloated looking line immediately before the canister fuel filter was that shape as a "damper". I haven't seen any kind of chem resistant hose in that odd shape. Is there a specific replacement for this piece or will other hoses serve the same function? Thanks, Dave

Driveline or engine noise? Help.

The date is March 12, 2007. I get a strange sort of metallic noise that seems to be temperature aggravated. It seems to be engine RPM related, but I can't be certain. All winter I heard it, most at AM startup. I don't think it goes away at speed but can't hear it over other engine and road noise. It seems load related. At 25 mph in town it could be aggravated by light throttle pressure and sort of disappears on no load with a matched speed and throttle. I live in Fallon, NV, so it was cold. The last couple of days I have been in Blythe, CA, and it has been very warm - about 90.

240d impossible start on the coldest day in winter.

So I just replaced my glow plug timer relay with the manual override and everything was working fine until today. I got out of bed to find that the temperature outside was -3f. I cycled the glow plugs for 30-40 seconds and tried to start the car to no avail, not even while holding the glow plug button and pushing the accelerator halfway down. I couldn't get it started and got a ride to school. When I got home at 3:30 I found the block heater and plugged it into an extention cord from my house. I let it do its thing for an hour and then tried to start it again with the same effect. I'm pretty sure the block heater is working because I opened the hood and could hear it making a humming sound.

1981 300D Intermittent Starting Problem

I am currently dealing with a very frustrating starting problem with my 300D. This is the symptom: I turn the key in the ignition and sometimes it will start and sometimes it won’t. If it doesn’t start I proceed to turn the key between the off position and the start position. Eventually it starts, sometimes after doing this once, sometimes after 10 attempts. At the beginning of this problem, I knew nothing about automotive electrical systems, so I thought it was the starter and replaced it with a remanufactured Autolite starter from Kragen/Checker Auto Parts (I know this was probably a bad idea). Well, the problem continued and since I already dropped off my (probably) good Bosch starter for a core refund, it’s too late to go back.
