1987 190D knocking injectors

Year: 1987
Model: 190D (Turbo)
Engine: OM602
Mileage: 225,000

Problem: bad "metallic sound" - sounds like injectors knocking.

Overview:

This knocking exists at low RPM. The engine also idles very rough. It goes away when you rev the motor or place a load on the motor. If I run a thicker fuel (like clean motor oil or power steering fluid - bypassing the main tank), the knocking also almost completely goes away.

I have bled the lines. I purchased the entire injector rebuild kit (w/ new nozzles). I balanced each within 50psi. I have changed air and both fuel filters. I have removed and cleaned the main tank. I have blasted out supply and return lines (to and from) the fuel tank.

It may be worth noting that:

-> The previous owner *may* have run veggie fuel

1983 300D Turbo Boost Improvement Next Steps

At ca. 154,000 miles I have been slowly bringing the engine performance back to snuff. I recently rebuilt my turbo using your excellent kit. The compressor and turbine blades and shaft were in excellent condition so I opted not to purchase the replacement set.

Prior to the rebuild my boost pressure at 4000 rpm was 9 psi. Following the rebuild, there was no improvement in boost pressure. Per your instructions, I tested the waste gate (with a bicycle pump) and it appears to work.

The ALDA tube and Banjo bolt are clean; I've installed a new air filter, adjusted the valves following your instructions, installed rebuilt Monarch fuel injectors, and did a diesel engine purge (which was clean) and replaced the fuel filters.

w115 Engine swap

Quick Question - Can I remove the engine(dead motor) from a '75 W115 300D and replace with a long block turbo OM617 (will not be using turbo set up-just long block minus turbo) and then swap over all the W115 specifics, oil filter housing, IP,manifolds etc, motor mount arms, etc. Easy or is there something I am forgetting? Thanks!

1975 300D Wouldn't Start

After approximately 2 weeks of sitting, I started my 75 300D for a few minutes to move another out of the garage. Then about 1/2 hour later I started again to move back in the garage (ran engine for no more than 2 minutes). Next morning she wouldn't start. Would crank and blow black smoke (more than normal) but wouldn't start. Pushed out and let sit in the sun for an hour. Restarted, runs fine.

Any ideas would be appreciated, thanks.

300D persistant knocking noise

I am still trying to track down a baffling noise that one tech has said is a rod knock. The 300D has 117k miles and has had regular service by the M-B dealer where it was purchased. I am the second owner having purchased the car at 116k.

I have now driven the car 1,500 miles half of it on Interstates. Last weekend I did about five miles at 95mph. The noise hasn't changed the oil pressure still pegs above 3 bar at speed and just below 2 at idle.

I keep thinking that if this was a rod bearing it would have gotten much worse by now.
