Diesel Engine Specific Aid

1982 617 balancer install

I am replacing the front seal in a 1982 300d. I used the kit and the seal installed quite easily. The problem occurs with the install of the balancer. The two pins are not attached to the balancer on the 300D as it was in my 240D balancer. The problem is that even when I heat up the balancer to 300 degrees in a toaster oven, (it can be positioned for nearly a minute) the pins do not fit into the holes. Every time I try to insert them, they go in partially and then stop with most of the pin sticking out or on a angle.

126 Turbo Diesel Air Cleaner Bracket Replacement

Hey, just got the replacement bracket from you guys today. I am going to put it in but for the life of me cannot get anyting on that bottom 13mm bracket bolt below the exhaust manifold loose to remove the old one. Any trick you can advise me on? I have tried an extension, I also tried freeing up the clamp on the turbo and turning it down but just canot get the angle to get it lose. It grips sometiems but at an angle and barely and I do not want to strip it. A shorty is too short to reach it from along side the block and my long 13mm hits the turbo.

Opinions on 85 300GD engine condition

Looking for opinions on the symptoms of this engine:

Oil consumption: 4 qt 900 miles
Lots of oil in air filter assembly
Oil leaking out of oil fill cap
Oil leaking out of manifold side valve cover bolts
Oil Pressure 7 lbs at full temp idle
Oil pressure 65 lbs at speed (60mph) warm
One con-rod knocking
At idle rod knock not real noticeable
Mileage unverifiable, but supposed to be around 90k

Whaddya think?

1979 300SD Turbo Diesel: after-market turbo advisable?

Thanks for the products and advice thus-far.

My 1979 Mercedes 300SD Turbo Diesel is running great (knock on wood!), and always gets a thumbs up.

Question for you and anyone in the forum with experience with my model and after-market turbos.

Would an after-market turbo work with my vehicle?

Yes? No? Why/why not? What to look for/stay away from? Other advice?

Air in lines 1981, 300sd

Car wont start. New strainer, clean tank, new bosch primer pump and assembly, new plasic lines, new feul filters, new glow plugs and all are working, did diesel purge (2 cans). Car runs on diesel purge setup. I'm lost so I took car to foreign car mech (local benz expert) and he tried an electric pump and....ran for one day then died again. He's saying air is getting in lines...but we both have no idea...please help!!!
