At the end of a from a trip of about 4 hours, I noticed a very harsh knocking sound coming from the right rear wheel area of my 1984 300D every time I took off from a stop. It sounded like the axle or wheel would fall off. It stopped after I arrived and parked it over night. At the end of the return trip, it started again and continued every time I took off from a stop. The next evening, I got under the car and checked axles, U-joints, drive shaft carrier bearing, wheel bearings, differential oil level and could find nothing definitive.
My manual windows are very hard to roll up or down. Any suggestions in making these windows easier to roll up or down?
Looks like I am in need of a starter change....woke up this morning and my 83 300SD will click but not turn over. It is usually sluggish on cold mornings, but early this AM I turned the key to nothing. I have a starter coming in and wanted to know if there are any special techniques or tools required to change this part? Looks like I am going at it from the underside, any help before I get dirty would be appreciated.

My 1974 240D 115 has an oil bath filter. What type of maintenance does this type filter require?
Flooring the accelerator pedal does not engage the kickdown switch on the automatic transmission. The pedal reaches its stop before the rod under the pedal can depress the switch. I tested the switch and it is good. Can I adjust the control pressure rod to allow more accelerator movement without damaging the transmission or throwing it out of adjustment? Is this adjustment easy to do?
My gifted 82 300d seems to have cancer of the electrical systems. First windows, then blowers and heat/cool, now locks. Where do I start looking (Seems to originate in the panel between the seats)? Is this too much for a mech head girl with no time and no garage in a cold place? Car came from my brothers estate, know he replaced a lot of engine parts, hate to dump it, but need to be realistic.
