Better starter for 123 240D

Kent mentioned in one of his guides, that an old 240D engine that has trouble starting in the morning might benefit from being equipped with the turbodiesel starter. I have inquired with my repair shop and two parts suppliers, and they all maintain that the starter for a 240D and a 300 Turbodiesel are one and the same. Makes me wonder . . . has the aftermarket already upgraded to the "better" starter or downgraded to the "cheaper" one? Hence, I'd love to get some info, maybe a parts number for that one . . . Thanks, Bernard

Rear End Howl/Rear End Questions

I had an 83 300D Turbo which has a rear end howl issue. It has been that way ever since I got the car, which now has about 260000 miles on it, and I only hear the howl when I am applying throttle, when I let off the throttle it goes away. I am going to be replacing both rear axels in the near future since I am starting to hear some noise from the CV joints on 1 of the axels and figured since I am replacing 1 I might as well replace both. I have been told the whine is due do a worn pinon bearing in the rear end and that is putting excess strain on the gears in the rear end.

Center vents barely blowing

Can anyone PLEASE help me? I recently got the A/C working on my 1983 300D, but the air barely blows out of the two center vents. The air will blow strongly out of the far right and left side vents, but not the center ones. If anyone can provide me with possible reasons and/or solutions to this problem, I'd be GREATLY appreciative.

If you'd like to email me directly, my email address is maptgpkrp@msn.com

Thank you VERY MUCH!!

water behind passenger seat, window?

I have after a rain a large amount of water behind the passenger seat. There is a large rusted out area by the right side front jack point. Also the front passenger window sticks when going down and comes off the track. Are these all related? Do you think the water is coming in from the jack point, door, or some where else? None of the seals have been replaced and the car has 202,000.
Thank you.

WVO - Removing soaps first

I was reading another forum and one of the participants was saying that he was using lye to remove the soaps in order to lower the viscosity and then still burning it as WVO (not as biodiesel). Has anyone else seen this or tried it themselves? I am thinking about a Grease-On conversion, but am very wary about the potential for damagng a MB engine. Bill Brewer Tehachapi, CA
