W116, BENZ AID - COMMON QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS

Kent, OK, I know I could have completely avoided this problem if I had only been using your instructions. But (& it always starts that way) I had replaced 2 sets of valve stem seals in the past 6 months using your instructions & I thought I knew the steps. Yup, the one biggest warning you give was what I did: removed the nuts on a stem & it dropped down. The cam is in the 1 o'clock position & the stem is about 3/4" from the surface.

I have an 84 300SD (126) and have a question. My shop that is helping me with my car said that my brakes work great (and they do) but the pads are worn. I have read here and in other helpful forums that it can be hard to tell whick brakes your car has (ATE,Bendix etc). Is there a way I can tell what brakes I have so I can order the right replacement pads. I am all fired up now and want to do that on my own also. Thanks in advance guys, Doug in Dallas P.S. My 1985 300TD has a vacuum leak. The engine won't shut down without using the manual stop and the door locks don't work. The brakes and transmission are working fine. Does the fact that the brakes and transmission are working while the shutdown and doors are not, help in locating the leak? Or, do I follow all the usual steps (as described in Kent's vacuum source leak detection manual)? [by the way, is it possible to search the forums?]

Hey there. Quickly I have an 84 300SD. It is in VERY good condition, everything works (kinda scarry) AC,cruise,acutmatic climate control, I mean it is in really excelelnt shape all the way around. 139k miles and I bought it a few months back. I have done your diesel purge, paid a very reputable shop to do a vavle adjustment and they replaced a vacuum pot that was causing a little shifting gremlin. Anyway all is fine except that a new glitch has occured. I started the car the other day and the idle was a bit rough. Nothing earth ratteling but I also noticed that there is a little smoke coming form the exhaust and ther used to be quite literally none that you could see.
