W116, Body and Interior Specific Aid

103 90' 300E hard to start, idled rough and would quit at stop signs. Frankly, What a piece!

I am posting my condensed experience on this subject to spare other 103 owners from going nuts/broke or both. I bought this PIECE at a good price with the intention of reselling it. It had a "fresh smog certificate" and drove it 300+ miles, I loved and enjoyed the smoothness and I immediatly thought what a great grandmas car(I am a die hard mercedes diesel rattling cage fool: 74 240D 4sp). Anyways the honeymoon stopped abruptly when the car started to show the above symptoms and all other signs of being possessed, I thoght the problem was not "BASIC" tune up related because it flew thru smog.

Brrrr! 82 300SD Heater Motor goes kaput!

Hey gang! Thanks to Kaia and Mercedessource, we completed our journey from Boulder, CO back to Portland, ME in our just-puchased-that-evening 1982 300SD. We made the trip back to Maine in 34 hours flat, averaging 25 mpg. Thanks to your book(s), we diagnosed a clogged ALDA line heading from the intake to the sensor and wala, bugs no longer hit our back windshield as we crossed Iowa. The only thing, and only thing that really gave us trouble on the trip was, 3/4 way back, the heater motor just QUIT. The gentleman we bought the car from stated that he had replaced the 'control valves' - which I read as he replaced the push button array in the center console (which was confirmed by finding it half-bolted in).

1980 300SD 220,000-What to offer?

I am on the front end of my 1st Benz diesel quest. I purchased Kent's book "Mercedes Diesel Buyer's Survival Guide". What a great book. Probably the best money I will spend on this quest. To make a long story short, I am hoping to end up with a SVO diesel for my 150 mile a day drive. Believe it on not, I have found a "little old lady" with a 1980 300SD. She is the original owner. I am going to look at the car. I know there are some mechanical issues (climate control, cold starting). She has said to make her an offer. Does anyone recommend a ballpark figure?

Thank you Mercedessource

Hello, Just thought Id drop a note to say thanks to Kent and Kaia and crew for all they do. I would have given up on my Mercedes WVO project long ago if not for thier help and advice. I love the philosophy of learning to work on your own car. Reminds me of my early wrenching years on my old volkswagons...Germans really know how to build, if only they could make that 'one bolt' more accesable- thoes of you who work on these machines know what I mean- at any rate... Keep it up!

#1 Replacing Steering Gear Box / #2 Odometer quit (Not related to #1)

Replacing the steering gear box with a rebuild on a 1982 240D and wondered if there are any landmines I should look out for? I can't find any instuctions except mark a point on the shaft, and it appears to be faily easy. Of course that is why I am especially worried. (Also -how long should this typically take?) By the by...my odometer quit this AM at 248,884...everyng else works. Where should I start diagnosing? IE what is typical cause? I noticed it was slowing down - not accurate (less miles than actual) just before it quit. Thanks

Alda Hose connection question

Hello, I abought a replacement alda hose from you guys at Mercedesource this last summer and when hooking it up I had a question. Where the 2 alda hoses connect- the barrel attached to the firewall with 3 prongs sticking off. 2 prongs on top, one blocked the other runs to the fuel injection appreatus, the other prong on the bottom running to the intake/exhaust manifold apperati...my question is this... Is there a coorect way for these hoses to be conected at this barrel. I just looked at other cars and guessed, it runs fine but its just something that has bugged me.

Can't Find 123 Euro Blower Motor Switch

I cannot find a replacement 6 pin fan (4 position: 0ff and low-med-high)control blower level switch ( I am sure it is Switch # 46 Pages 285-286 of the 75-85 Haynes Diesel 123 Book) which is both mechanical (wire) and electrical. It is placed in the middle of control panel's three switches and I know it has a ribbed black plastic with inner metal housing with a decent weight to it. Besides a Mercedes dealer could anyone tell me where I can possibly obtain one? Right now I am jumping the connector to stay warm. This car has no air cond. Thanks.
