Is Bosch style alternator compatible with Bosch Valeo style alternator

I have just pulled off my alternator for replacement and have found it to be a Valeo style. When looking for a replacement, I have found that Bosch makes a "Valeo" style and a "Bosch" style. Are these alternators interchangeable given the same plug for the wiring harness? Thanks, Justin 92 300D 135k (daily driver) 85 300D 305k (wife's car)

87 300TDT IP shut off valve

My 87 300TDT has began to be hard to start after it has warmed up on a warm day here in FL. Has left my wife stranded 2 times. After it cools off overnight it starts right up and runs fine. I am thinking that it is the Injection pump shut off valve- The IP was replaced by Mercedes about 2 years back and they did not replace the shut off valve. Could some one describe what happens when this valve begins to be intermittent or fail? Many thanks, David

Loud reverberating whining noise coming from dashboard

Roughly 5-10 minutes after start (seemingly on colder days) my 1978 300D emits a loud reverberating whine that seems to come from the driver's side of the dash. While intermittent, it is quite unsettling. The best description I can give for the sound is that it is similar to the sound one might hear from a poorly lubricated fan (where the grease in the motor is caked with grime). The sound happens without either climate control or defrost on. Is it A/C related or something more serious? I know the vacuum system is in that general vicinity, but what else might be causing the problem?
