300ce engine loses power at highway speeds

Sir: I have a 1988 300CE with 108k miles. Recently, while driving at highway speeds, 60+ mph, the engine seems to lose power and the red "check engine" light blinks on for a few seconds. It feels like I am losing power in one or two cylinders for 5 to 10 seconds. Then, the power resumes, the engine light goes out and everything is OK. This problem will only occur about once in 20 or 30 minutes of highway driving. I took it to my local mechanic, he drove the car and, of course, this problem did not occur. Any suggestions? Thank you, tjw tward@hseinc.biz

300te wagon self leveling rear suspension (hydropneumatic)/ replacing air cell accumulators

I have seen various postings re harsh rear ride on 300 te wagons frequently being caused by bad air cell accumulators, and that replacing both of these (about $100 per side) is likely the solution.

1990 W124 chassis 300 te wagon self leveling rear suspension

Hi- my 1990 300te wagon has the self leveling (hydropneumatic) rear suspension. The ride in the rear is very stiff/harsh- feels as if shocks are not functioning. I googled this and found that almost always the cause is bad air cell accumulators in the rear and that the shocks themselves seldom go bad. The air cell accumulators are only about $100 each.

4-matic question

recently purchased a 91 300te 4-matic, and need info on status of 4-matic operation. at start up, lights for 4-matic do not come on, nor do they when car is operating. other dash check lights do come on, though not all. the manual "4-matic funktion" switch in the engine compartment is on the "1" position, so i assume it is engaged. How do i know if it is working? how do i know if the dash light for the 4-matic function is burned out, or non-operational?
