87 300TDT Turbo spool up LOUD whine, engine runs but sluggish.

I have a 1987 300TDT with 119,000 original miles bought a year ago from the original owner. Yesterday while accelerating abruptly in traffic I heard a loud wind up sound (like the turbo was out of control), a loud "clink" sound from under the hood, and a puff of grey smoke followed- all within a 2 second range. The rest of the way home (about 8 miles) there was a lack of power and that same wind up sound- only in the range that the turbo would normally kick in: My question is of course... What is it and how to fix it? this is the 603 Diesel 3.0L 6cyl.

Alternator with new regulator/brushes cuts out at 3500 RPM

My alternator stoped generating (but no charge light while running) so I replaced the regulator/brushes with the kit available here. Now, when I drive around with a volt meter attached to the battery, I see that the battery is being charged until the engine hits about 3700 RPM and doesn't resume charging until the RPM gets below 3400. The cut-in and cut-out RPM remain the same reguardless of what gear the car is in (even Park) or what accessories are on or off (although this does affect the battery voltage a little).

300ce engine loses power at highway speeds

Sir: I have a 1988 300CE with 108k miles. Recently, while driving at highway speeds, 60+ mph, the engine seems to lose power and the red "check engine" light blinks on for a few seconds. It feels like I am losing power in one or two cylinders for 5 to 10 seconds. Then, the power resumes, the engine light goes out and everything is OK. This problem will only occur about once in 20 or 30 minutes of highway driving. I took it to my local mechanic, he drove the car and, of course, this problem did not occur. Any suggestions? Thank you, tjw tward@hseinc.biz

300te wagon self leveling rear suspension (hydropneumatic)/ replacing air cell accumulators

I have seen various postings re harsh rear ride on 300 te wagons frequently being caused by bad air cell accumulators, and that replacing both of these (about $100 per side) is likely the solution.

1990 W124 chassis 300 te wagon self leveling rear suspension

Hi- my 1990 300te wagon has the self leveling (hydropneumatic) rear suspension. The ride in the rear is very stiff/harsh- feels as if shocks are not functioning. I googled this and found that almost always the cause is bad air cell accumulators in the rear and that the shocks themselves seldom go bad. The air cell accumulators are only about $100 each.
