1987 300 sdl - odd starting problem

i am having odd start up/running syptoms. car starts and runs perfect when cold. after warm up, requires 2-3 starting attempts. intermittently will not take fuel after warm start (especially if i continue cranking on first attempt until firing - usually no more than 10 seconds). fuel filters have been changed, diesel purge performed (actually looked pretty clean). car has 241,000 miles and looks to have been pretty well maintained. timing chain is tight.

Poor MPG on 86 300 SDL

Since buying the car in 2004 I've always gotten 24-28 MPG city/highway/air on/air off. She's always be a quick start after I replaced the glow plugs in 2004. She charges down the highway as smooth as silk. A great traveling car.

The car sat idle last year while I was overseas. Since getting back home MPG has dropped to 10. No kidding, 10 MPG. I have changed all filters; air/ both fuel and oil. The car starts right up, idles nice, no smoke, no sputtering or hesitation while running or starting.

I've checked and replaced bad vacuum connections in the engine compartment. I have added diesel fuel additives in the tank, with no positive effect.

I've ordered the purge kit and will try that when it arrives.

w126 rear center console vent help please

My '82 w126 300sd center console rear vent (the one that exits out the back of the center console facing rear seat passengers) has been stuck open and when I pulled vent, I discovered why. Upon reinstalling, I have no vent function and it seems cable is now disconnected on the other end (front of car) the question is, where is the other end and where/how do I access? Thanks Kent!

82 300SD Blower Motor Success Story

Installed new blower motor brushes today on my w126 '82 300sd -mine were worn down to nubs n(car has almost 400k on it) and I think the little brush springs had nothing to push against due to wear, Interestingly, I was able to operate blower with direct current from battery outside of the car on a vice but I think there was enough resistance in the car via internal wiring to prevent blower from operating. Car all cool -thanks Kent!
