Tranny Vacuum Dashpot Location for 1980 300D

I am a reletively new owner of a 1980 300D, and learning as I go. I've recently been trouble shooting the lack of heat, which means the vacuum system. I've got heat back, but the tranny feels like it is slipping as it shifts gears. I purchased a transmission daspot, but the car doesn't have one currently installed. Should my 1980 300D have a dashpot? If so, where should it be installed? Your help is appreciated.

300D Power Loss?!? Uh oh!!!

On my drive in to work in my WVO-powered 1983 300D-T this morning, I had been driving on the freeway for just about 5 minutes or so and all of a sudden the car started losing power! I was worried that the transmission was giving for a moment, since that's been a "watch" item, but the revs didn't shoot up like a typical "flare". The guts just went away and the engine was not spooling up. But the engine didn't quite die... Nervously, I stomped the accelerator for a moment and it seemed to "fight through it" and the power charged back, and right then a curious thing happened... The fuse carrying the tachometer blew out right when the car came back to life as if there was a surge. Related? No?

What is a safe running temp for a 300cd non turbo?

It started out as running to cold, maybe 60 according to the gauge, so I replaced the t-stat with one rated at 176 (80centigrade) now the heater works much better and the car seems to have more power, but now the gauge is reading around 90. Is 90(centigrade) to hot?I know that modern gas powered cars usually run around 195 or more, but I just dont know what a 30 yr old diesel should be running at. are these cars prone to bad gauges or sending units(79 300cd)? I also noticed that my oil pressure has dropped at idle from 3 bars to 2.25, should I worry about this? any advice is much apprecieated!

84 300D euro runs at high rpms on highway

I'm sure this has been addressed in the past but I didnt see it. I recently purchased an 84 300D Euro. I noticed right away that when I get up to highway speeds (70 mph) it seems to run at very high rpm. I checked that it is shifting through all the gears so it seems to be a rear end problem??? Is this something I can do by myself and what can I expect to pay for one? Any advice is much appreciated.

77 240d oil pressure

I have a 77 240D and was wondering the right oil pressure reading. Even at idle the gauge shows max pressure. I have another vehicle that shows different readings at different rpms. Now I saw a video on youtube that shows the same thing as my car does. Gauge is pegged even at idle. I'm running Shell Rotella 15W40 but will soon change to Amsoil synthetic. I've also read that there are a few O rings that are on the bar that goes through the oil filter that can affect the pressure. Any help would be appreciated.

Grinding into reverse-what parts 83' manual 300d euro?

Hi there. i recently purchased for my first diesel mercedes a fine specimin. It is a '83 300D Euro version, with a 4 speed manual. To make it even cooler, it had a turbo engine correctly installed some years ago. Anyway, it seems as if i will need a clutch very soon. This car technically doesn' exist in the parts lists. I have been told that i may not know what clutch it needs until i take it apart. My question is if anyone knows what i need and where to get it? Is it the same clutch parts as a 240D? Any help would be appreciated.

Thank you Mercedessource

Hello, Just thought Id drop a note to say thanks to Kent and Kaia and crew for all they do. I would have given up on my Mercedes WVO project long ago if not for thier help and advice. I love the philosophy of learning to work on your own car. Reminds me of my early wrenching years on my old volkswagons...Germans really know how to build, if only they could make that 'one bolt' more accesable- thoes of you who work on these machines know what I mean- at any rate... Keep it up!
