1983 300TD won't re-start after turning off engine . Problem persists for over 20 minutes and then engine will start.
I am kind of a newbie with Diesel, can someone send me directions on replacing glow plugs, my glow plug light comes on for a second and turns off. I would like to replace all glow plugs. Thanks and Happy New Year
Hello everyone! My first post and I want say that, I am enthused and on my way to Mercedes ownership, with some help.
I've been looking at purchasing a 1985 230ce with 101K (asking $5K) on the meter for about 6 months. I think they have the coolest classic look. It's not in the best shape but she runs strong and steady.
Would someone give me an opinion(s) on wheather or not this vehicle is known to be reliable and can I DIY the maintenance and repairs. Parts!!! The 230ce never pops up on any the domestic online car parts sites.
Hi Kent,
My cruise control has some issues. I can move the arm in the "set" position, and it will accelerate, but won't set the cruise control. In other words, when I push the arm, the gas pedal goes down and the car speeds up rapidly, but won't stay at any set speed. Easy fix? Complicated fix? Expensive fix?
Hope you had a wonderful Christmas and I wish you a Happy New Year!
Justin and I will be in Bellingham Jan 14-17 and will swing in to say Hello.

This is my third Merecedes, the first 2 had 200K+ at time of purchase and i ran the cars until the body was literally falling off on one and the suspension fell apart on the other. Both still had sound engines but everything else was worn out. My latest purchase has 162K miles, everything appears clean inside and out, body good shape, feels solid going down the road, etc. One problem : uses a quart of oil every 200 miles when going at interstate speeds. Considering the others engines had so many miles and still ran well i have a hard time giving up on this one.
Hi all at Mersedessource and Happy Holidays to you. I just received the diesel purge you sent me just in time for Christmas and I am dying to try it. I only have one question. Kent's instructions are very explicit but being retired from the training and education field people sometimes interpret differently no matter how precise the instructions. That said, my question is this. It appears that I will be feeding and returning the cleaner from the same bottle.
My 1977 280E seems to have a miss in it when it's hot. It's got new gas, new plugs and plug wires. Has Electronic Ignition. Fires up pretty easily but idles fast until it's put into gear, emmits a lot of smelly smoke (white/grey). Engine seems to stumble more when it's accelerated. Car sat for a 2 years before I got it. Could this be something with the vacuum system? Is there something that controls the idle speed as engine warms up and the engine timing that might have a leak or rotted off?
I have a 1977 280E. Wanted to know the normal operating temperature is for this car. The gauge reads between 80 and 40 (presume it's 60 degrees celsius). Please let me know what this should be reading.
Thanks.
