85 300TD rear main seal...what else to do?

I changed to 5W-40 synthetic and am now leaking from what appears to be rear main seal. For the sake of my question, let's assume it is (and is not the oil filter to block housing or cooler lines) and assume I take the engine out to fix it. BESIDES the items listed in the transplant guide, are there any "may as well do's" while the engine that has 190Kmiles is out anyway? Compression is 320/320/310/290/300psi COLD and oil pressure at 1.75 bar at 85 degrees C after a hard highway run....is a ring job/crankshaft bearing "cheap rebuild" worth it with those numbers?

Mileage Specs 240/300D

What is the manufactures advertised MPG on the 240D and 300D?

Did this vary depending on the model year?

While negotiating the purchase of a 240D with WVO installed the seller said, he had just purchased a 1983 300D that got better fuel mileage per gallon. I thought this odd considering the 240D is a 4 cylinder and the 300D is 5 cylinder. Would use of the WVO system in the 240D somehow cause this to occur or is it more likely something else causing this to occur? Would the vehicle the 240D get better gas mileage if run solely on diesel fuel?

1984 300D cruise control not consistant

Hi all and Happy New Year. I have read a few questions about cruise control problems and always try to learn from them. The problem with my Benz is a little different from what I am reading. My CC works but is not consistant. Sometimes when I set it right around 60 mph and around 3000 rpm it holds pretty smooth and constant. But unless I set it at just the right speed it operates kind of jerky. It will surge for a second and then back off as it compensates for hills and dips on the highway. It just isn't constant.
