82 300TD high operating temperature

kent

1982 turbo diesel wagon. great runner. no mechanical or fuel issues. always ran about 180 or so degrees. just barely above the 175 f mark on the gauge.

recently...maybe over a month or two. it is rising to near
200. (the next hashmark on the guage) or sligly above with in stop and go. and then drops to about about 185-190 at 60 mph. my usual cruising speed.

outside temps around 95 (though outside temp doesnt really have much of an effect...samre readings day or night)

1978 450 SEL High Idle 2000 RPM

I have just acquired a 1978 450 SEL and based on the records the motor has about 35k miles on it since a complete rebuild. It starts up and runs fine (wants to die if you give it gas when cold) once warm. It drives great but the idle is high at about 2000 RPM cold and 1700-1800 warm. Not sure where to start.

Vacuum? Is there an idle control of some sort that could be bad?

I don't see an idle adjustment and don't know these gas engines so I'm lost.

Thanks for any help!

15" Wheels for a 85' 300SD

I am now the second owner of a beautifully maintained 1985 300SD. However, I would like to change out the 14" Bundt Alloys with a 15" Mercedes wheel. I prefer the 8 slot chrome wheels I see on 190s and w201s. The problem is this, I cannot find a straight answer on the Benz forums if there are any stock 15" Mercedes that will "bolt" on correctly in relation to offset size.

Any insight would be appreciated.

how hot is too hot?

I have driven 8000+ miles in my 300SDL on Ken's dual tank WVO system. I
have had no performance problems from ambient temperatures from 17 degrees F
up to 90 degrees F. I added a CoPilot and accompanying switches from
Greasecar to help control my fuel tank source switches, etc. The CoPilot
comes with a fuel line and coolant line thermometer. I have noted that
Ken's system seems to heat up the oil about 65-70 degrees over ambient
temps. thus, if it is 35 degrees outside, my WVO after my final glow plug
heater and before my lift pump is about 105 degrees.

My research suggests that 150-160 degrees is good, but 250 degrees is even
better.

Even though i have noted no degradation in performance at 105 degrees, i was

at 130K. Car now has 340K. Compression check @ 290K: 340,350,400,360,380.

It was the uplift pump.
