220D Not Starting

I have a 220D that sat for several years, but previous owner said it ran last year after compression starting. I have no glow plug light before and after pencil type glow plug upgrade from mercedessource. Motor spins fast enough and acts like it wants to start. I can smell burnt fuel from the tailpipe, but it just won't catch. When the starter knob is pulled out to the glow position I do see the dash lights dim a little. I've found a couple of comments about W115 220d's not having a glow plug relay. What else can I check to verify function of the glow plugs?

Alternator Belt 'problem' ... 1984 300Turbodiesel...

Since I upgraded my glow plug relay to the type of relay that leaves the glow plugs on for a few minutes after start up, the alternator belts have been squeeling until the relay shuts off. I would like to put in a solonoid on the power supply to the relay with a momentary on button on the dash... But, in addition to that, I simply need to tighten the Alternator belts. It seems an easy thing to do on a car like this, which is so comfy to work on, but I can't seem to get the job done. It seems there should be a bolt, or a nut, to loosen behind somewhere, then turn the long, skinny hex shaped thing, and then tighten up the whatever. I can't find the bolt or nut, or whatever!

Small vacuum lines

I recently purchased a 79 300TD wagon. I have discovered many hidden problems with the car since I purchased the vehicle. The main one is the discovery of a 3" hole behind the battery and tray. It was hidden by a poor fiberglass patch job and the battery. This has been leaking into the car and sitting on the rear passenger floor boards. The floorboards are also rotting and hidden by rubber undercoat. Anyhow, when I bought the car I knew it needed a new heater servo and amplifier.

Diesel engine mount replacement

Hello fellow enthusiasts!I am working on a 83 300 TD. Any one have expierience replacing engine mounts? Passenger side looks tight and driver side looks even tighter. I tried loosening the passenger side 8mm allen head but it is siezed. Getting to the 6mm allen head bolts on top of the mount looks to be a challenge. Any suggestions.........John

Suspension problem on '83 240D

So the other day I was out driving and started hearing a loud clicking noise whenever my '83 240D was in gear. I assumed it was the brakes since the rear brakes need to be done, but when I got out of the car and took a look I noticed that the rear right wheel was angled away from the body of the car. I jacked the right side up to get a better look at the suspension, but I know more about engines than I do suspensions and I really was just looking for something obvious that was broken.

Loud reverberating whining noise coming from dashboard

Roughly 5-10 minutes after start (seemingly on colder days) my 1978 300D emits a loud reverberating whine that seems to come from the driver's side of the dash. While intermittent, it is quite unsettling. The best description I can give for the sound is that it is similar to the sound one might hear from a poorly lubricated fan (where the grease in the motor is caked with grime). The sound happens without either climate control or defrost on. Is it A/C related or something more serious? I know the vacuum system is in that general vicinity, but what else might be causing the problem?
