1984 300D STARTING PROBLEM
Hi,
Sometimes my diesel engine will not crank. I recently put in a new ground strap, starter, alternator, and battery in the last year. All appear to help for a while and then it happens again. Is this common?
Thanks,

Just bought the xenon bulbs from the source. Would like to know if there is a trick to removing the front dome to change the bulb?
My 123 sedan has an unusual look in that the rear suspension is higher than the front similar to what people try to achieve with sports cars. Is this typical? Can this be just worn out shocks or are springs fatigued?
The dashboard light indicator comes on after pressing the brake pedal the first time after starting up. I've checked bulbs and all work but am not sure if they are the correct p/n. All have nickel/silver bases which I understand they should be as I was told the copper/gold bases run hot and tend to fool the light module into turning on the indicator. I just recently got this vehicle and it appears the previous owner had a problem with the 3rd brake light as it has been resoldered and has a broken holder. It functions but I am not sure it has the correct bulb installed.
I've been working on getting my '83 300SD back to fighting fit and I'm beginning to move on to cosmetic issues now. One thing that has been driving me nuts is a hole in the headliner, not a cigarette burn, but one that was made into it. It's about an inch square and has has molded, rounded edges. It's about an inch above or aft of the domelight. My SD has a sunroof, but the switch for that is in the cluster above the climate controls. Can anyone tell me what this hole is for?
Kent,
I replaced the rear axle assembly, axles and final drive, of my 1983 300SD with one from a 1991 420SEL. I really like the result with one exception: the speedometer is off (something was wrong when I started passing everybody on the highway at 55 mph). I read somewhere that the problem would be fixed if I repalce the speedometer with one from a 420SEL. Does that make sense? The 420 has a speed sensor in the final drive, the 300SD gets it speed information apparently from somewhere else. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Thank you
Dieter
A couple of months ago I replaced my injectors with new crush washers. Now, after a compression test & valve adjustment the centers of two of the washers were missing (and one was broken, about to fall out!) The injectors were torqued with a true torque wrench to the right amount. Where did those centers go? Did they simply disintegrate like happened in my '78 diesel VW or are they destroying my engine? Unfortunately I also have a new noise at certain RPMs and when shutting down.
When I operate the seat switches on the doors(driver's and passenger's), only the seat backs will fold forward or backwards. The seat bottoms will not move forward or backwards, but the seat bottoms will move up and down. My 5foot tall wife cannot drive our Mercedes since it is set to my 6 foot height! Benz-aid help needed! Thank you.
Just received this vehicle a couple of weeks ago. I was going over all the items that need to be done to get it ready for the road. Adjusted valves, Changed ALL fuuel and oil filters. Removed and cleaned the fuel tank screen. Checked the cylinder compression. So far so good,
I recently replaced my exhaust manifold on my 617.951 diesel and couldn't find new copper locking nuts anywhere so I reused the old ones with red thread lock. It's been about five months since then and I noticed a little oil around the front of the gasket, I checked the front nut that I can get to and it was loose enough that I could turn it with my fingers.
My question is, where can I find new locking nuts and what is correct torque for these nuts? My Chilton manual said 18-21 ft lbs but that doesn't seem very tight. Thanks for your help
